nope, 0.74 had some fix related graphics rotations.
You could try a different cpu core to see if that has any influence

What do you mean different core? sorry, am a hardware illiterate!
Did you mean to disable hardware rotation in the card?
Have tried different output settings after a few searches, tried
overlay, ddraw etc to no avail. Any further advices please?

Note that I had an Intel Pentium 4 2.6C before and Radeon 9600XT
which still experienced the same problem......

Update: Tried all vga modules to no avail (VESA, Paradise, S3, ET3/4000)
Also Tried 486_Slow, 386, 386_Slow and 386_Prefetch to no avail

You could also try updating your ATI drivers, I get this kind of corruption occassionally in anything including Windows

Did you try machine = vgaonly ?

Yes, i did, But I finally found another copy on the net which is a slightly different version with the file i have that fixes the problem.
