I'm wondering if there is any way to trick syndicate wars to play without having the cd in the drive or having to mount a image and still get music?
Apparently there is a Config.INI file that has both a CD and Install path, but those don't seem to matter in a full installation. Anyone reverse engineered the executable to the point that that annoying cd audio requirement can be removed somehow?

What do the switches in the Play.bat file do to the MAIN.EXE executable?

Guess i can always install a minimal install and set a bat file with a command to imgmount and play.bat and set the image file in the game dir. That at least make the installation portable so i don't need the cd or mounting manually or worrying about bullshit location problems.

Yes that works. Basically mount the cd or image (with a strange drive letter to minimize conflits like v) install a minimum amount and create a file called CDPLAY.BAT with these contents (v is the cd drive letter you choose):
::only way i found of making the cd audio work and remain portable...
@imgmount v "sw.cue" -t iso -fs iso
@PLAY.BAT

and move the sw.cue & sw.bin images to the game dir. This will work wherever dosbox works, but will NOT work without dosbox. In that case you have to mount the image manually.

A insatisfactory solution but whatever.

Also, you have to edit the CONFIG.INI file so the InstalledDir points to the current director ".\" to be sure make the installation portable.
