I'm using Windows XP, and I can't figure out for the life of me why Tomb Raider crashes when I try to use the audio packs & Glidos. I followed the Glidos installation pages like the Bible. I read & re-read them each time I uninstalled & reinstalled, but I cannot get the audio packs to work.
I've done many tests with various combinations of glidos & the 2 audio packs (the older release of the audio pack & the newer one):
1. Installed Glidos 1.29 & 1.32 with the original, older audio pack:
a. I installed vdm sound first, and used the command prompt to install TR. The game ran fine.
b. I installed glidos 1.29, the game ran fine.
c. Installed the original audio pack, game crashed. [The game crashes before the 1st level loads].
d. Removed everything (except vdm sound)
e. Reinstalled tr, installed glidos 1.32. All was well.
f. Added the audio pack, game crashed.
g. Removed the audio folder, the game worked.
2. Glidos 1.33, 1.36, 1.39 & 1.47
a. When I installed the last 2 versions of Glidos, I used "TrAndUbForGlidos.exe" to install TR. The game ran fine.
b. I installed the later audio pack (v 1.6), and the game crashed [before the 1st level loads].
c. The game ran fine after removing the audio folder, or by removing the mp3 audio preference in glidos.
d. I uninstalled everything (including vdm sound) for a 'fresh start.' Rebooted.
e. Reinstalled glidos, tr (using "trandubforglidos"), tested it without adding audio pack. Ran fine.
f. Added audio pack, the game crashed.
g. Removed the audio folder, game ran fine.
With all of the above, the glidos crash message I get is:
"Glidos MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close." In addition to that, the later version(s) of glidos that use VDos32 pops up a window that says, "Read failure" with a list of letters & numbers.
P.S. I know that the problem must be specific to my system, but I don't know what to look for. Though I read that my graphics card is known to have problems with glidos (Ati radeon 9700), glidos itself has run wonderfully on my computer for years. It still does, as long as I don't install those audio packs.
As a last resort, I uninstalled my K-lite Codec pack to see if its audio functions might have been causing a conflict. The game still crashed if I tried to use the audio packs. I'm at a loss, because I terribly want those sounds to work...
Thanks in advance for any help!
