Hello,

I have been messing around with Theme Hospital trying to get it to work with OSX 10.6.5 using DOSBox 0.74.

I have an .iso of the game, I first tried copying the HOSP directory from the disc to my games directory. The game ran fine, minus sound, but it was impossible to save, so I thought editing the HOSPITAL.CFG file to say "SAVE_OVERRIDE=c:\" (I mount the HOSP directory as my C drive) would work. At this point the game would work up to the board game section just before the actual game runs, then just not do anything. So I figured I should delete it and install it properly.

I tried using Boxer initially (dragging the .iso onto the install option), but there were some errors and it didn't work.

So I tried using the command line in DOSBox instead (not using Boxer), I made a directory for the game, mounted this as C, and mounted the .iso as D (by first mounting it using Toast in OS X, then mounting that volume as a CD drive in DosBOX) and then installed the game. This went smoothly and I even managed to get the sound working and everything.

So, thinking I have sorted it I run the program. Everything running fine, and then I go to launch the game, and exactly the same error as above occurs again. It just gets to the screen before the game (the one with the board game) and doesn't do anything. I can press ESC to go back to the previous menu, so the game isn't even frozen, but it just doesn't load the actual game bit of the game. I have tried deleting the game then reinstalling, deleting DOSBox, restarting my computer, using a different directory and all combinations of this. No joy.

I don't understand what is going on here. I had the game running and was playing it absolutely fine but couldn't save. But then I modify a .CFG file. It stops working, so I delete this file along with the rest of the game, and now it seems to be permanently broken.

Any ideas (apart from reinstalling OSX!!)?

EDIT: Actually I was just being impatient! It does load eventually, it just takes a really long time. And the sound is working, and saving and everything. Most excellent.

Ideas:
mounting the .iso file directly in DOSBox, by using its imgmount command. Something like:
imgmount /Volumes/Macintosh HD/users/...

Remember to use the same mounts (as given at installation time) at the next start of the game.
