The only thing that lovely looking piece of hardware needs is a C64 on a chip (from the C64 Direct-to-TV) embedded. and then you are golden in my mind, cause there are of course ways to make a USB 4.5 inch floppy drive.

So it's essentially a low-end Wintel box in a C64 case. It might make a cool-looking HTPC, but if I actually want a C64, I'll just hunt down the real thing on eBay. 🤣

I hear you, this is why I kept a couple of working ones around and also a couple of hanger queens for parts 😉

I also have a couple of C128's and of course various working Amiga models in storage as well...

Interesting concept that they are using the original case and keyboard, I was hoping that would have licensed or purchased outright the C64 IP and develiped an ASIC single piece of silicon for it.

I wonder if they would have supported standard PC 5.25" floppy drives with a special controller for reading GCR encoded diskettes 😜

No matter where you go, there you are...

Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available.

Sifn't include a C64 SoC, they don't even need to develop it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C64_Direct-to-TV

Edit: They don't even need to work out how to implement it: http://joco.homeserver.hu/mmc2iecKB/
