I tried that and got the same error .. and I use to own the game but the CD I had got cracked when I moved so I had to get it off a website ..

I tried it on DOSBox 0.72 and DOSBox 0.73 and same error. So I think the download I got of that game was damaged or something. But anyways Thank You for trying to help 😊

The crack could possibly be causing the issue, so you may want to try getting another physical copy.

yea that's where it gets weird mr_bigmouth_502. My friend got me a clone of the game (ISO) and I still was getting the exact same error.

Could I be getting that error because I am running Windows 7 ?

Or maybe DosBox isn't compatible with Renegade: TBFJS

Or maybe you screwed it up yourself (MUCH more likely!).
Hey you neither posted your system specs, how you installed it etc. so i'm pretty certain it's your fault.

I can confirm that I have the same issue with this game. I've tried both the OOTB version as well as the 1.1 patch (available via http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dlp.cgi?lang=eng&sys=p … gade.zip&ref=ps) against DOSBox .74.

From this post (A Line in the Sand Mel Fatal Error #: 16 [resolved]) and this post (Renegade Legion: Jacob's Star - soooooo frustrating.) I thought to try different sound configurations. I'm able to get the game to start when "No Sound" is selected (one does get CD sound), but setting up any other digital sound option: Adlib, SB, Orchid Soundwave32, or GUS results in the errors originally posted here.

Can't reproduce the problem, at least not easily. Installed version 1.0 from BIN/CUE image to C:\RENEGADE with small installation option; chose SB16 digital audio, CD audio music, and mouse controller. Basically just took all default options in sound config that followed after "Pro 16". Digital sound and CD audio music is working fine with default settings in DOSBox 0.74. If the problem occurs after proper installation from a CD or image (i.e. this is not some faulty rip of the game), try using the same config options mentioned above with default settings in DOSBox.
