Hi everyone, I have an odd question here that I should know, but am not entirely sure of. Does anyone know what type of maximum processor a Dell Optiplex would support? I have the medium size, horizontal beige one, regular Gs as opposed to Gs+. I'm assuming it's a regular Pentium MMX socket 7, yes? The current chip I have is the 166MhZ one. Is it worth an upgrade to 200 MhZ, say for the sake of playing games like Final Fantasy 7? Or should I just try overclocking it? I noticed mine has the stock, brass-looking, passive heatsink with no fan. I know old processors like this don't put out nearly as much as heat as the new ones...I'm kinda leary of frying my dear old Dos box. 😖 I'll post my total specs below for reference-
System type: Dell Optiplex Gs
OS: Windows 98, Dos 7.1
Ram: 128 MB Edo memory
CD Drive: stock OEM CD-ROM, IDE Atapi
Gfx: NVidia GeForce 2 32MB
Monitor: CRT/VGA 19"
Sound Cards: AWE32/Gravis Ultrasound
External: Roland MT-32/SC-55
Mouse: *Dr. Evil voice* "La-ser."
Keyboard: yes
Beer: yes, please =)
Edit: PS- that Nvidia card is PCI, not AGP, as I have no AGP slot on the riser. It's all good ol' ISA/PCI.
