Greetings all

Can anyone help me here? I've had a quick read through of all of the other messages on this board and you people seem able to help me with my situation.

Basically it's the age old Doom engine/Build engine game not working on my XP system. I know what the problem is now and I use Zdoom as my doom port, but there is always strife, and my latest problem, Exhumed. Now I recently purchased the full English Exhumed (aka powerslave) and I can't even install the game! In the installation it reports that it can't find the CD.... I'm running the damn thing from the CD! So that's as far as that goes.

Now, I love Strife so much (and all the other games) so I'm thinking of downgrading my OS to Me. My problem has been the fact that it's been really twitchy with sound enabled, like going down to 1fps when I fire the gun or something (and I get identicle results with VDMsound). I know 98 is unstable sometimes and 95 is far dated for me (I was impressed with the speed of XP, and it was really smoothe on windows based aplications, but i'm willing to sacrifice that for compatability... plus I won't notice it after a while anyway 😁). Now, is this a good move?

I realise that my biggest problem will be my sound card... it has no dos support at all, so I might need some emulation... or will I? It's a Terratec DMX 6Fire (Although I did notice that they have a 95/98/Me version of VDMsound, will that give good results for Strife under Me?).

So, is Me a good OS? Is it worth me formatting my hard drive to re-install everything (which I've done a thousand times before, so it doesn't bother me)? Is Me also more stable than 98? (I was really impressed with the stability of Xp).
