How are you mounting the game's directories?

Have you read the 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox ?

Thanks for the replies.

@DosFreak
I've tried all the options as output (surface, overlay, opengl, openglnb, ddraw.) but the issue persists.

@Jorpho
Yes, I read that and I mounted:
mount C "C:\Documents and Settings\*****\Desktop\ProGammaX\Games"
C:

in ***** there's the right name of the folder of course

And yes, I've put the dosbox files inside the ProGammaX dosbox's folder 😜

You'll need the prefetch-aware core (see the core entry in the configuration file).

Uhm of course if you're using disk images.

So, doesn't that mean that the game won't work unless you put the files on a disk image and then mount the image?

According to the link you posted yes, it may actually be necessary to boot dos for the int13 hook to work.

I'm afraid that unless you have the original disks, getting this running in DOSBox is a little more complicated than "step by step for noob".

I'm pretty comfortable with tweaking dosbox so can you please explain me how to do it? the part I'm missing is how to have the folder recognized as a floppy image apparently.

Try adding -t floppy to the mount command.

Oh, and you can (mostly) write in proper English too! Okay then. 😎

It's not just a matter of making the folder recognized as a floppy image; you have to use a floppy image.

1) Find a bootable DOS floppy image from wherever. (MS-DOS, FreeDOS, Win9x rescue, it doesn't matter, as long as it's a .img floppy image.)
2) Download DiskExplorer from http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA013937/editd … sk/index_e.html and open the .img floppy image.
3) If there's not enough free space on your bootable floppy image, delete stuff until there's enough space. (Generally you can delete everything except for command.com and the .sys files, other than config.sys.)
4) Go to File->Import . Find the folder containing all the files from Captain Blood, select all the files, and click Open.
5) Close DiskExplorer and open DOSBox. Type "boot [whatever the path is to your .img file]".
6) Type "BLOOD" and the game should start.

Thank you very much for this! I'll try out and will let you know if I succeed.
I'm sorry for my previous laconic style, just not very easy for me to type on a mobile keyboard!
Really appreciate the help, there is now way I would have figured that out by myself.
Thanks again!

I've done what you suggested. Floppy boots.
Then I run BLOOD, the usual installation menu appears asking to chose Graphics Mode/controller/sound. Once I'm done with the choice I press ENTER, and then:
-if I didn't change anything (so: EGA/Keyboard/Sound), then it reverts to the prompt A:/
-if I changed controller to Mouse, the screen freezes (A/ prompt doesn't appear)

What have I done wrong?

Fyi I'm using DOSpad (the port of Dosbox 0.74 on iPad); this has never caused any compatibility issue (I can run tons of games).

Thank you in advance for the help.

What is the total number and uncompressed size of the files you copied to the disk image?

67 items, 543KB (on my PC, before I put them in the archive)
