That's what I want to know.

The games always played them in mono opl2 playback for some reason, at least on a sb16.

IIRC, didn't Solar Winds use "CMF" (Creative Music Format) files for it's music, as well as requiring SBFMDRV.COM loaded?

If so, here's the deal. The version of SBFMDRV.COM that shipped with the SB16 (and AWE32) sound cards did NOT support stereo playback. I actually stumbled upon this eons ago, and found that the older SBFMDRV.COM from the SBPro (SBFMDRV.COM - 7,276 bytes - 02/11/1992 11:13am) *did* support stereo playback (and worked fine for an SB16 or an AWE32).

Anyhoo, if that's not the case (S.W. using CMF files and SBFMDRV.COM), please disreguard my rambling <grin>.

If it is the case, attached is the SBFMDRV.COM driver in question 😀

that's exactly what I used to record it. I didn't even use a SB16 🤣, just some windows sound system.

I had to refresh my memory with Solar Winds, as well as the above SBFMDRV.COM version in question.

It appears that SW simply doesn't utilize a stereo FM CMF driver like the SBFMDRV.COM one that I posted does.

That being said... do CMF format tunes *actually* support/have stereo panning? I'm just a-wondering if the key to the SBFMDRV.COM SBPro version, is that it simply does some sort of magic to "stereo-ify" the CMF tunes (?).

I never composed anything in CMF format, but IIRC have twiddled with some CMF "instrument" editors... and I don't really remember any stereo parameters/options for the seperate instruments.

Did this guy also do the music for Jill of the Jungle? The style sounds very similar.

You could ask him.

Although, I'm not sure if the contract form on the site works. When I clicked submit it only took me to a blank page in both Firefox and IE, and I never got a reply to the mail I sent.

He does have some songs under Video Game Music he recorded himself which are indeed in stereo.
