Hi, first post here from a long time lurker.
Apologies if a thread exists for this problem but I never have much luck with the search functionality on this site.
Anyway I've built myself a Windows 98 SE box (and a 486, AND a Pentium 200...) to re-live some happy times past, but I think I'm having trouble with the 3D video performance:
ep-3vca MB with the latest bios
1Ghz Pentium 3
512mb RAM
400w PSU
Winfast Geforce2 GTS 64mb
It all runs fine, System Shock 2 for example runs very well, but it lags in Dues Ex 1, and based on the system requirements for that game it should not.
And the other thing which makes me suspicious is that it lags the same amount whether I use a 640 resolution or a 1024 resolution, textures high / low, etc.
I’ve installed the most recent VIA 4in1 drivers, tried the latest nVidea drivers and the latest Winfast drivers (which installs a gart driver too), but no improvement.
I tried using a slower Geforce2 MX 64mb and the performance is the same, which makes me more suspicious that something isn’t right.
And I’ve messed around with the settings in the BIOS RE the AGP, aperture size, etc. All I’ve managed to achieve there getting stuck in 2x mode as apposed to 4x (which the motherboard supports and which I’ve seen working).
Anyway my only remaining thought is to re-install Windows 98 SE. Does anyone here have any ideas?
It couldn’t be the processor bottlenecking me, could it?
Thanks for any help.
