I brought a legit copy of Ripper and I'm getting this problem also. I've tried it on XP through to Win7 and no luck.
The in-game videos play fine but everything is scrunched into the top quarter, both patches appled BTW.
Any help please?

Here's how I got it running.

I have all the discs imaged and stored in C:\DOS\GAMES\RIPPER.
MOUNT C C:\DOS\GAMES\RIPPER -t dir -freesize 400
IMGMOUNT D C:\DOS\GAMES\RIPPER\Ripper-1.iso -t iso
D:
INSTALL
When you reach the screen change these settings:
CD Read Size: 32768
Cinematic Mode: Hi Res FULL
Patches
Place rip103.exe an rip105.exe in an empty folder
Double-click rip103.exe to extract 8 files
Double-click rip105.exe to extract 3 files
Allow overwrites
Delete rip103.exe and rip105.exe
Move the remaining files to C:\DOS\GAMES\RIPPER\RIPPER
Allow overwrites
Launch the game with RIPPERV.BAT
