Intermittent problem with Dosbox and Masters of Orion...

I bought a copy of Masters of Orion that came with Dosbox.

It runs properly about 30% of the time. The other 70% goes to the main menu, but when I try to do anything it just hangs. After days of experimentation I found that if I entered Alt-Enter twice it would run fine when it hangs. Once it runs properly (either the 30% or after Alt-Enter) it will continue to run properly until I shut it down.

Not a big deal, but I wonder if there is any way to make it run properly 100% of the time without having to enter Alt-Enter.

It says "output=overlay"
What do I change it to?

I tried every choice there was - Overlay, Surface, Direct3D, DDraw, OpenGL, and they all give the same results. It just hangs until I do a pair of Alt-Enter. Then it is fine.

Any ideas?
