Hello,
Yes, their are programs only available as old DOS versions. I tried to run one on W7 64bit in XP-Mode. It unfortunately aborts when it tries setting to full screan.

Is their work-around in the XP-mode?
Or, does it really require to install a DOSBox or a VM with DOS?

If it requires a DOSBox or a VM:
Where should it be installed:
-> Under Programs (x86)?
-> Or directly within the XP-Mode?

Regards
METsen

If you use a vm or dosbox then use them directly and not through another VM (xp mode is a Windows XP VM running in VirtualPC).

Thanks for your recommendations. I actually had it running previously on W XP within a VM and FreeDOS. I hoped it would work now "directly" in W7 XP-Mode, but unfortunately not.

It sounds interesting to install FreeDOS on a CD or USB stick. Sorry if I possibly ask some stupid questions:
1) Can FreeDOS be installed directly (without a VM) on an external memory?
2) How does W7 64bit then handle it? Does it "automatically" recognise the 32bit program and runs it as it would have been installed within the folder Programs(x86)?

1. Yes I think it can
2. I think you are mistaking freedos with dosbox. Dosbox can be run on W7 64bit as Dosbox is a 32bit program. Freedos can be booted INSTEAD of W7, freedos is an operating system. Or it can be run inside a Virtual Machine and even in Dosbox.

Thank you Dominus. Yes, I forgot that DOS requires to be booted. So, if it is installed on an external memory it only can be run after a restart of the computer.

Are you on something? Don't quadrupel post the same question that many times.
Use the search on how to print with Dosbox if you are that impatient. Hint: megabuild only

New to writing on forums or new to internet? I have never understood why people want answers emailed to them... And why does it seem, that people from US cannot write proper English?
