Howdy,
I'm trying to get some of the older infocom games running under dosemu, but when I try to launch "Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy" it says "Invalid Opcode at A580 9A7A 0297 0000 0000 7300 0001 0000 0000 0000 0303 FD01 0000"
Any suggestions?

I'm running DosEmu under Ubuntu 9. It would probably run find under Dosbox, but I'm setting up a Synchronet BBS and see if I can it working as a door game.

Couldn't you just use frotz? AFAIK, DOSEmu is pretty old and buggy.

Frotz works directly in a terminal, so should be door-able right out of the box.

I hadn't heard of Frotz. Seems to be to Infocom games what ScummVM is to Lucasarts games. Thanks - I'll give it a shot.
Found this site which should help me:

Have a look at the Interactive Fiction Archive;

http://www.ifarchive.org/

You won't find the Infocom games there, since they're still under copyright, but you will find Frotz as well as interpreters for other formats, and a ton of free games to play on them. 😀

If I'm not mistaken, the BBC actually has an online browser version of H2G2. The core game is exactly the same; they've just thrown in a couple of pictures as well. I guess that doesn't help much if you want to run it as a door game, though.

I'm pretty sure there's also a Java equivalent of Frotz that might be useful in that regard, though.
