I just noticed this program: SoundFX 2000.
It seems to competes VDMSound... what is the pros and cons with this? Is VDMSound better?

Cons:
- SoundFX 2000 is not free
- no discussion forum for it, so no real feedback
- seems to me it is abandoned, well development at least, the paying-side, probably not 😀
- VDMS gives you much more control and only runs on files you want it to run with, AFAIR SoundFX ran for all dosgames (might be mistaken)
- VDMS has been proved to work better with most stuff and does have higher compatibility.

Pros:
- uh,you paid for it and might get a warm fuzzy feeling as only stuff you pay for is really good (or so some people still belive...)

Ok. In other words, SoundFX sucks. 😁

And also, VDMSound emulates OPL2 and OPL3 chips whereas SoundFX only reroutes things to your sound card, so if you don't have any OPL chips on your sound card (no new ones do) you get no AdLib audio. 😀

Yes, it’s my fault.

Actually, that program made my gaming experience in Blood better, as this damn crackling sound stopped (and I was able to turn on 16bit stereo sound at 44Khz). Of course I used it together with VDM. 😁

But 40 Dollars for abandon ware is kinda... expensive for my taste.

Same experience here - with VDMSound I got an irritating crackling in Wing Commander III. With SoundFX there was no crackling. There is a thread somewhere with sound samples....

Yeah, I had the impression that it runs faster (and I do think it supports opl too) but on the other hand, it is not compatible with various dosgames.
