Since I got my GTX460 I haven't been able to run MotoRacer in D3D mode, probably because it has more memory than my previous GTX260 or Win7 sharing system memory (I had XP before). Is there any possible way to limit video texture memory so it can run in D3D mode?

create a shortcut to the exe and add
-TextureVideoMem268435456

try that

or better still
set the dektop to 16bit then

game.EXE" -d3d -CorrectRatioTextures -ZBuffer -FrameRateMax0 -nodither -TextureVideoMem268435456

You're a genius! What helped was really the -TextureVideoMem268435456, but how come I've never seen this parameter on the list?

That same parameter also made MotoRacer2 not to crash on startup, however, I see this weird picture and if I click on the bottom line, the game quits.

try this for mr2
-d3d -KeepAvailableVram3800000000

or open motoracer2.ini make sure it matches
[Settings]
D3D=true
Language=English
ManualSettings=-D3D -KeepAvailableVram800000000
Params=-KeepAvailableVram800000000

and run by double clicking on the exe (dont use the shortcut)

or try moving the avi files to a backup folder

You're definitely a genius! Thanks to you now I have all MR games working under Win7. However I had to keep -TextureVideoMem268435456 in conjunction with -KeepAvailableVram3800000000 for it to work. Now there's something about the gameplay that's been happening for a long time... The oponents are running much faster than my bike even on the easiest level on dirt bike tracks only. This started to happen after I moved to XP and had to use the XP fix. Do you know if this is possible to fix?

not sure it can be fixed (thought it allways existed this is mr1 or mr2 )
tip:
The cpu riders race on a perfect Line. So what you have to do to beat them is to find the best Line in the tracks,
Drive on the Line with them and use the wheelie to overtake them where you can and then get back on the Line.

ps: mr1
-FrameRateMax<XX> : Limit frame rate of the game to XX frame/sec
(20 to 99, default=30, 0=no limit) set it to the refresh of your monitor usually 60 unless you have a crt

On MR1 I can beat them at any track, on MR2 is just the dirt bike tracks even if I keep doing a wheelie the whole track with the fastest bike they easily overtake me. On the street bike tracks everything's normal. I'm sure this wasn't happening back when I had Win98.

I already tried that, but no luck. The only thing left to try is the nvidia internal framerate limiter.

I thought it was locked to 30fps, worth a try though

Regarding MR2, is it possibly due to the protection issue mentioned on the GOG version? Apparently you can't get above gear 3 in motocross, and gear 4 in sport bikes, see these pages:

bug discovered: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/moto_racer_series … otorcross/page1

update from GOG (their current version is fixed apparently): http://www.gog.com/en/forum/moto_racer_series … 2_players/page1

seems some other versions have the bug too:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/moto_racer_series … _problem_on_mr2

I've got an original copy at home, I think it used Safedisc or something (where the exe is linked to a .icd file - EA released it in UK) so perhaps your version is a dodgy one and needs a fixed exe from somewhere?

Hmm... My EU version (En/Fr/De/It/Es/Se) of MR2 isn't Safedisc protected. But there is the 2nd data track after the CDA... ProtectCD, maybe?

I'm not 100% sure which it used actually, it doesn't use icd file actually, I just checked my UK version

Just checked, and yes, I'm having that same problem. I'm using a patch to work under Windows XP because the original game (patched or not) complains that cannot find some stuff on NT kernels. Unfortunately Nvidia's fps limiter didn't fix the problem. I don't seem to be having this with MR1. None of my versions are from GOG, but who knows if XP fix .exe was taken from there.

I guess then it's possible the fix you're using has the gears bug if it's a no-CD exe? Although I'm probably running the same fix on my XP. I'll take a look when I get time to see what I've got, and whether it has the gears bug or not.
