Hi All,
I have purchased a copy of glidos (which is mostly fantastic) but I have a problem with transparent textures in tomb raider 1. A good example of this would be 'the lost valley' where all the shrubs and such are not transparent but appear to be black (i'm on a laptop so the exact coulour maybebrown!). The same thing happens with water and it happens pretty much all the time. Also the text in the passport and the like is difficult to read.

I am running it on a vaio laptop (fx401) with 800Mhz duron & ati Rage mobility M1 agp. The version of glidos is 1.24.

I have scanned the newsgroups and found mention of transparency issue but no solution (I could understand). Is there one?
I would be most grateful to anyone who could point me toward a solution.

Cheers

Hi Wildthing,

Taken from the support section of Glidos.net:

Brown rectangles and muddy water. The first time you run Glidos you may find that all transparencies look brown and you cannot see through the surface of water. If so, try pressing F4. If that doesn't help, press F3 and then F4. Once you get it right, it should stay that way. Actually, I think I've fixed this one.

Ahem 😉

First I suggest you try installing the latest drivers for your graphic chipset, if you didn't do it already. I had many OpenGL-related issues with bad ATI drivers on my old Rage128 Fury in the past.

Also make sure you're using the latest OpenGlide 0.09rc6 version.

Thanks Kaminari,

I can't wait to try your suggestions, here's hoping they work. Many thanks for your swift reply.

Well I tried the suggestions made to me and still not transparent textures! One video card driver stopped the game working altogether and I had to goi back to an earlier one. Pressing F3 & or F4 does nothing other than pausing the game for a brief second. Not sure what help anyone can offer me but thought I would note that I still have a problem. If I can find a better driver for my card and I that fixes the problem I'll let you all know.

Thanks

Hi Kaminari,

Just writing to say I got the problem fixed. A chap named Gary (on smartgripus forum) recommended I try every version of openglide wrapper until I found one that worked. Paul confirmed this as worth a try. I went backwards from current all the way back to v.7 before I got working transparency! The fmv was very poor so i tried an up to date OpenGlid.ini file shipped with glidos and that fixed the video. So it appears to be all working now.

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers

Interesting. You may want to try again 0.09rc6 with my own OpenGLid.ini.

Hi ,
Tried your .dll but no joy, your .ini file may have made it faster/smoother if that is possible? No frame rate counter now so not able to confirm. Paul Gardiner said that v.007 of glidewrapper was last to support OpenGL 1.1 and so he thought it'd make some ind of sense. The game seems smoother now as well as having transparent water etc, anyways, thanks very much for all your help.

Best Regards
