Running Dosbox version 0.74 on a Samsung R522 laptop, Windows 7 ultimate. Intel Core 2 duo 2.1Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM

It loads normally, however as soon as I press a key, it stops responding and the letter corresponding to the key I pressed just fills the window. Attaching a screenshot to show what I mean. This happens every time I try to run it and I am not able to get it to do anything else. I have tried resetting keymapper and options, and even re-installing Dosbox and it keeps doing this. No hints in the Readme or any of the FAQs I have come across.
