Seeing as Tualatin boards can be rather expensive, I'm thinking of getting one of those and sticking it in another board. I'm getting a pretty awesome deal on it, 10 euro for one of those.
I've never tried one though, has anyone had past experience with such a thing?

Well, even though I never used one (I have a linlin adapter though, never got around to using it as I already had a couple Tualatin board with some lucky buys), considering it comes with a heastink and fan, €10 isn't a bad deal I'd say. Especially if it's brand new!

I'm not sure how it affects the voltage though. It "seems" this adapter only removes the problem Intel created when they changed a couple pins around when they introduced Tualatin (so it wouldn't work on Coppermine boards) so the board should be able to deliver the 1.45v/1.5v required for these processors.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong 😀

I have a modded tualatin I bought off ebay. What I found was that the BIOS has to support tualatin. I have an Aopen AX34 that works fine with it. I also have an IBM board that doesn't boot with it, and an intel board that actually takes the time to display a message telling me I have an unsupported CPU installed, shocking, I know. All have the latest available BIOS installed. I'm also pretty sure Tetrium is right about the voltage thing too.

You "could" try to avoid that message by installing an older version of that BIOS for your Intel board 😉

As Tetrium pointed out, I highly doubt that this converter does voltage. The only other converter that did voltage modification to support the Tualatin on old motherboards was the powerleap ip3/t, which has it's own power connector and alot more stuff packaged on it.

The ability for the motherboard to deliver the correct voltage of 1.45/1.5v is more important than BIOS support.

Also remember that with this adapter you can use it on a slotklet to convert a Slot 1 motherboard as well to run with Tualatins, like the Asus P3B-F.

Well the seller told me that it has options for voltage and 100/133 FSB through switches. I'll ask him for a photo. I'll definitely get it if I can't find a decent deal on a Tualatin motherboard.

I know ASUS made a Coppermine board that worked with 1.45v (also showed the correct voltage at post). I tested it once with a VIA 1.2Ghz chip. But for some reason that combo stopped working after a couple tests, it wouldn't post anymore after which I put that combo away.
Iirc it was a CUV4X or a CUSL2

I have a spare Via Apollo Pro based system with a similar lin-lin socket adapter and a Tualatin-S 1266. It works fine with the original BIOS. The lin-lin adapter has many small jumpers in the center of the PCB, to tweak things a little.

If you're going to be getting a Tualatin motherboard, you don't need an adapter or a modded chip. The adapters and the wire mod were for using Tualatins on Coppermine motherboards.

I am looking to have my tualitins into my dual coppermine board, but that wiremod does not change any vio does it?
I thought the GTL bus was using lower voltage levels on the tualatin, and thus a real converter with power regulation is needed to not overload the chipset levels and risk any early death of the mainboard.

I would never buy this crappy non zif converter, if it were only a real converter.

The problem I found with these socket370-to-socket370 Tualatin pin converters is due to the added height caused by the converter itself. I ripped off the PGA370 heatsink rentention clip trying to get the heatsink clamp down. I ended up thermally epoxying the heatsink to the CPU. I suppose some heatsink clamps may have more give than the one I was using though.

I was using the Powerleap PL-NEO/T adapters. Looking at it now, I don't see an onboard voltage regulator, but I think my Asus CUV4X-DLS had the proper voltage support already.

So no Voltage regulation is needed to the FSB levels? only vcore at 1,45? instead of 1.65v?

The tualatin could it run at 1.65v with good heatsink? and what about overclocking the tualatin core, what would be reachable?

Yes.
All tualatins can run at 1,5V. I would not go much higher.
Lower is usually OK, I use 1,3V myself, without overclock.

I have used such converters though it wasn't as sleek and had it' own socket and lever, they do work. now a days you can just buy the cpu with the adapter soldered on/in it, which also work.

I wonder what will happen if you put one of those modded Tualatins in a real Tualatin board though?

IF i remember correctly nothing happens it works as if they were/are normal Tualatins.

If you want an ISA slot, I think it will be easier to try and pair a Slot1 to Tualatin slocket with a supporting board.

I never had nor knew of slockets with Tualatin support, what i did was use a slocket AND socket adapter in a big giant sandwich.
