Well, last night's "debugging session" was pretty weird - with 128MB of RAM I couldn't even get near the ~12m time, all I got was 16-17m 🙁. After removing one of the two 64MB sticks I got 11m26s (with RAM settings maxed out - since it's PC100 CL2, it should do PC66 with any settings a mainboard could throw at it)...

Dual Pentium 3 Xeon 550/1Mb SL3CE on ASUS XG-DLS

3m 51.875s

3.203 seconds slower than my run using the Intel MS440GX board.

Edit: Did another run and came in at 3m 34.328s.

Just tested this on my Voodoo5 build.

Valkyrie - 59.946s - 2.0GHz Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred, Asus A7N333, 2x512MB PC2700 DDR, Windows XP Home SP3

I'm impressed with this thing; only about 3 seconds slower than my Northwood, and that thing's pretty snappy in XP for what I use it for.

PCs, Macs, old and new... too much stuff.

Dual Pentium 3 Xeon 1Ghz/256Kb SL4HE on ASUS XG-DLS

@ 750Mhz (7.5 x 100Mhz FSB)

3m 14.140s

@ 840Mhz (7.5 x 112Mhz FSB)

2m 46.187s

Lol, these are officially supposed to run on the i840 based boards. Anyway, the higher clock rate is nulled by the 256Kb L2 cache, a paltry amount compared to even the 1Mb cache of the 700Mhz Xeons I normally run.

I was surprised that the board actually booted up with these, I wasn't expecting that at all. I don't think the microcode for these processors is present in the latest bios update for the XG-DLS, but I guess since these are "Cascades" cores and have on-die cache, they're fundamentally similar to true Xeons, even if there's only 256Kb L2 available.

I should try to get a pair of 933/256Kb Xeons. With the 7x multiplier, it'll be a more fair comparison running at 100 and 112 on the FSB since the clock speeds will be about the same.

Hi all. I must say that this thread was one of the main reasons why i did register on this forum 😀

You made me try SupePi on my Intel 486DX2 66mhz, and 1M took 3 hours and 20 minutes. Is this ok for this cpu or would you figure that something is wrong? I ask this mainly because here http://hwbot.org/submission/2224197_michu_sup … min_46sec_952ms these guys seem to be able to do it in more or less than 1 hour and 20 minutes. Makes me wonder why!

I'm using Windows 3.11 and the motherboard http://www.rainbow-software.org/images/hardwa … cheetah_v17.jpg doesn't have onboard IDE controller and instdead i'm using a multi i/o ISA card much like this http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/ttilli/Compon … A16_%283%29.JPG .

Would any of these justify the slow SuperPI 1M?

My 2001 gaming beast in all it's "Pentium 4 Williamate" Glory!

It looks like the results you linked to are from a CPU that's been overlocked to 104MHz. Not sure how they did that while keeping the memory speed at 33mhz though. Are there 486 boards that allow you to set a higher multiplier?

I'm sorry, my bad, this is the correct link of the rankings http://hwbot.org/benchmark/superpi/rankings?h … t=0#interval=20 . Many of them seem to be using stock clock speeds on these processors. Even so i'm not really sure if my SuperPi times are correct for the cpu and rest of the specs, or if something could be improved\corrected. I'm using 16MB EDO ram by the way.

maybe it's because you are using Windows 3.1, and not NT like them....
also could it be something like onboard cache?
