Hi,
this is prob a simple question: I downloaded from the net UB (3dfx) and unzipped the files to the main directory of TR:is that all I need to do to run UB with glidos?Or should I adjust anything in glidos files?

Thanks for any reply 😀 .

...from another post below I read that some editing of the cd-check and exe size in the glidos.ini is required: could someone please be more specific?
Many thanks 😀 .

If you're using the free levels (and not the Gold CD), you have to edit your Glidos.ini file, look for the Unfinished Business settings and delete the following line:

CDCheckFile: data\End2.phd

Nothing else's required -- apart from using the 3dfx version of Tombub.exe, of course.

Thank you for the reply!

...but I have one weird problem here: I dl from the link provided in this forum the tomb.exe file needed to run TR with Glidos (just wanted to check once again glidos with the original TR).When I realized that I did already have that file on my comp,I tried to erase\drag this file but my system won't allow it :it keeps asking to shut the program that is using tomb.exe while apparently there is none.Even after rebooting my os .I tried to check with alt+del+ctrl, but it seems(as expected)that I have no program running in the background. And if I try to delete my other copy of vodoo-tomb.exe I find no problems at all.
How can I find out which program is running this file?Could it be glidos somehow?(Even tried to delete thetr folder...)
Any help would be really appreciated : I do really feel uncomfortable with that "undeletable" file 🙁 on my comp...
Thx!

...ok ,I tried rebooting win xp in safe mode and deleting tomb.exe to no avail.

In the task manager the only processes running are:

taskmgr.exe
explorer.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
Isass.exe
services.exe
winlogon.exe
crss.exe
system
idle

Which of these exe could be involved in tomb.exe?Which can I remove without messing up my comp?

Thanks for any help!

uhm be sure that the svchost.exe is the one distributed with windows.

Some virusses are know to startup svchost.exe from a different directory so see if you only have one svchost.exe on your system
also lsass can have a virus infection as well

it's in general a good idea to scan your system for virus

futher didn't you make by accedant the file readonly ?

Well,this is bad news...

I have TWO svchost running :you say one could be started by a virus? How do I know which one is the original?Should\could I close them both (and maybe Isass too) then try to delete Tomb.exe and restart windows? What else could I try?

As I checked the task manager once again I noticed another program running :smss.exe: does this make any sense to you ?

I used to have a Norton antivirus program on my previous comp but not on this relatively new one :do you have any suggestion (i.e. link) for a good antivirus scanner?

Thank you very much!

Having more than one svchost processes running at once doesn't necessarily mean thoses processes are launched by different executables. Just check that you only have one svchost.exe file on your system (Start> Search> Files), it should be located in your C:|WinNT|System32 directory. Now it may be that this file has been infected.

I'm personally using AVG. It works and it's free.

I've never heard of this problem before. I hope this is Glidos from http://www.glidos.net, not from some Russian site. No way should anything be doing anything with Tomb.exe at start up.

Just in case it helps, when Tomb.exe is running, it will appear in Task manager as ntvdm.exe

Hi Paul,
no I'm a happy regular customer (I hope at least ,as long as you receive my envelope 😀 ),and the prob shouldn't be related to GliDos:it runs fine TR-UB and Redguard (as I said only prob is scratchy sound during TR fmv,and low quality voice reproduction in Redguard 😢 ).

I have downloaded this tomb.exe file from the link in this forum and for some reason it refuses to be deleted even if I am not running GliDos or TR! Further ,I noticed that I can't remove the files in my temporary internet folder too ... 😕

In the meanwhile I scanned my system with etrust ez antivirus and discovered that there are actually some files infected and others which couldn't be scanned (what does this last thing mean?),so being not really a "techie" person in the next few days I'll try to get some more help 😖 around here.

Thx!

Are you logging in to your computer using an account that has administrator privileges?

Not sure what to suggest for the scratchy sound.

...it's my home comp ,so I "just" log in (with all privileges I guess)...

You don't have all privileges unless you are running as Administrator.

Yes, it’s my fault.

I an having the same problem as Slade, except I cannot delete tombub. I got the file off of the disc, but since I am new to computers, I wasn"t sure how to copy the fil to the proper directory and ended up with the file in my documents. After getting the file in the correct directory to play the game, I found that I could not delete the exra file in my documents.
