Hi, I'm trying to run DosBox 0.74 on a Windows 8 64bit-based Acer W700 tablet PC. Whenever I run the application, I get a very, very brief pop-up with the exact wording:

Exit to error: Can't init SDL DierctInput::CreateDevice: Device not registered.

The tablet itself runs on a i5-3317U Core i5 @ 1.7Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Intel HD4000 GPU and a 128GB Internal SSD running Windows 8 64-Bit. The tablet doesn't have a physical keyboard, and the only devices I've ever plugged into it are a 3rd-party PS3 controller via USB, a generic keyboard and a mouse. None of these are plugged in when I try to launch, and having any of them plugged in doesn't help.

I've tried running as Admin, changing compatibility to XP/7, with no luck. All settings for DosBox are as default when it's installed.

I should also note that the tablet has two virtual keyboards in use - An inbuilt one that comes as part of Windows 8, and a custom 3rd party keyboard (Comfort On-screen Keyboard, I use it for touch controls for games). I've disabled both of them, and ended their respective tasks/services, to no avail.

I don't know what to try from here, unfortunately the error message isn't verbose enough for me to deduce anything more.

Help please!

edit: Ok. This is wierd. I did some more googling, and discovered by chance a topic from 2003(lol) about someone getting this error in some random application when they didn't have a mouse plugged in. So I plugged in my current mouse, tried DosBox and it crashed as usual. For no real reason I decided to try my other mouse, which is the first mouse I ever plugged into the tablet. And DosBox starts! I guess DosBox doesn't like touch interfaces?

Either way, my issue is (mostly) resolved.

Or the tablet doesn't like other mice than the first ever plugged into.

Klimawandel.
