You say you have a brand new CD and it worked fine before you installed Glidos. Is your CD Tomb Raider Gold; that is, do you have Unfinished Business on CD or did you download the free Gold levels?
If it worked without Glidos, I assume your system is not Win XP, as the original Tomb Raider didn't work (for me anyway) on Win XP. As far as I know VDMSound is only for Win XP.
I have Tomb Raider Gold and both Tomb Raider and Unfinished Business work for me out of the box on my Win ME system, but they did not work at all on my newer Win XP system.
I used Bokkie's TR1 XP Advanced Installer to install Glidos and VDMSound and now it works for me on Win XP with beautiful graphics (The Caves level is even more spectacular with Gambit37's High Res Textures). On the Tomb Raider Gold Disc 2, under 3DPATCHES\3DFX is the tombub.exe file that got installed in my C:\TOMBRAID directory (not by me) and which Glidos is happily using.
That tombub.exe file is 868,075 bytes long and has a modify date of 2/16/1998 12:03:36 on the CD.
The tombub.exe file from www.eidos.fr is 867,563 bytes long and has a modify date of 2/17/1998 14:17:00 (on my HD), and it is a recompile; that is, it was done from the source code, so it must be official.
I substituted the French file for the one from my CD and it works with Glidos with no trouble in the game.
After the Statistics at the end of the game (The Hive level) there are credits. These consist of five .pcx picture files. On my Win ME system these five files take 45 seconds to play, and then the Title screen, another .pcx file, comes on.
On the Win XP system with Glidos, after the Statistics there is 45 seconds of black screen and then the Title screen comes on. The Title screen is a .pcx file and it is displayed. I don't know why the credits aren't displayed.
This happens with both the original tombub.exe file from the CD and the French one.
