As far as I'm concerned, this is a good thing. Disney is just going to ruin our childhood memories by turning it into a bastardized cash cow catering to greenhorns fresh from mommys teet.

LucasArts wasn't exactly a house of talent anymore anyway. They were mostly just a publisher of 3rd party contracted games after ~1999.

Well, does anyone really care about the CURRENT (!) Lucasarts? Have they done anything worth mentioning within the past 10 years? I have fond memories of Lucasarts, but these are about 20 years old, so I'm not really saddened by these events.

Disney will still use the Lucasarts brand to put out games made by other studios, so maybe those will produce some quality games? Who knows, this might actually be a good thing!

Tell you what; Disney couldn't possibly do any worse than that failed attempt that was StarWars Galaxies.

Fitting that they used the LucasArts logo from Grim Fandango, which in my opinion, shared by many others, was the last great non-Star Wars/Indiana Jones LucasArts game that they actually developed. As the article and the comments mention, it may very well have been the last great game developed by the studio, period. I find it hard to feel much sorrow for a company that has been mostly a glorified publisher for the past ten years.

Agree with mystery... They made some of the greatest games of the 90's but I don't think they've done anything worthwhile in the last 10 years. Still, sad to see them finally go.

This +1. Grim Fandango was one of the most engrossing games LA ever released.

I didn't know LucasArts still existed. So it's hard to feel much emotion now that it's true.

Call me an old geezer, but my "attachment" with Lucasfilm Games / Lucasarts was lost from the advent of Escape from Monkey Island onwards.

Still, my all time favourites remain :

1. The Secret of Monkey Island
2. Monkey Island 2 : Le Chuck's Revenge
3. Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis
4. Sam and Max Hit the Road , and,
5. Day of the Tentacle
6. The Dig
7. Full Throttle

........

hey, wait a minute! The list keeps growing!...

On the other hand, I REALLY wanted to like Grim Fandango, but I was never able to overcome the control interface and frequently get frustrated turning him around to elicit the required actions. The same reason why I was not able to enjoy Escape from Monkey Island. I know many Grim fans will not agree with me, but that's the resaon I was not able to enjoy it.

Can't remember the last time I played a LucasArts game. Must have been over 10 years ago or so. Not really affected much hearing it's defunct now.

Crimson Tide - EVGA 1000P2; ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS; 2x E5-2697 v3 14C 3.8 GHz on all cores (All core hack); 64GB Samsung DDR4-2133 ECC
EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3; EVGA 750 Ti SC; Sound Blaster Z

First of all, sorry if this post doesn't go there, I've been reading the index and chose this forum by elimination.

Well, this piece of news has been widely commented everywhere: Disney closes LucasArts. It is the chronicle of an announced death, as LucasArts was in recent times more an IP management firm than a true game developer, however it's sad to see such a name of gaming history disappear.

What most matters to us, however, is to grab now all game related files for preservation 😜, I think. LucasArts FTP is still up and running although for some newer games (and I'm using a broad definition of "newer" here) there seems to be no other alternative than the website.

Ow, Milliways. Thanks, I'll remember that... so many results with LucasArts I must have missed it.

First thing I'm going to do is to rip the entire "patches" section of its website. As I've learned now, searching for files related to past games can be a real pain, even if LucasArts game files are now all over the place. That couldn't be the case in a few years time.

The FTP is still up and running, although it looks like it hasn't been updated for many years.

Your favorites date from 1995 and earlier. As much as I love Grim Fandango, even I admit its control scheme leaves something to be desired. However, its much easier to control if you use a gamepad.

I think there are two, maybe three or four kinds of LucasArts fans, with the major camps being the SCUMM and the Star Wars fans. Minor camps may include early Lucasfilm (pre-SCUMM Ball Blazer, Koronis Rift) and simulator fans who like SWOTL and X-Wing/TIE Fighter.
