I have seen machines like this for cash registers from that era. Clunky but neat when fixed and cleaned up.

Just looks like a small LPX system to me.
If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.
It has at least 2 ISA (VLB?) slots. Expansion cards are mounted horizontally into a riser card.

It would appear to be an Intel LP486 Professional Workstation.
