^.^ I have an 8086 that has just been kicking my ass in terms of hard drives. It uses a bastard version of XT-IDE and a proprietary connector. I LITERALLY have 8 failed drives on my shelf for this system, until I found that scsi card. The midi card is icing on the cake. I'm hoping I can at least test it, make sure it works, then re-sell it to cover costs.

IMO go with the Slot 1 system for SLI. But even that could be too slow for SLI Voodoo 2...

The Voodoo2 SLI scales pretty well with CPU speed... I remember reading somewhere that it sees benefits even up into the >1ghz range. So the more CPU power you can feed it, the better.

Yes, those two should well SLI with each other. I've mix-matched a Creative and a Diamond Card with similar memory with reference drivers before. Usually these are reference cards with just the company branding on the PCB.

Those 2 CPUs are a really close call. The motherboard architecture and chipset advancements of the PII system might provide an edge. Anyway :

A real world game benchmark comparison with the SLIs in both systems will be interesting to see.

IIRC, Voodoo2/SLI benefits a system with a minimum of 400MHz. Meaning the advantages of Voodoo2 and SLI are seen from this speed onwards. I remember reading about this in some Voodoo2 reviews where the question was "if already having voodoo1, is it worth to upgrade to voodoo2?". (If the system is less than 400MHz, and already having a Voodoo 1, the speed increase by upgrading to Voodoo 2 is not appreciated.)

The Bulgarian envolope is unrelated from the soundcards. I got the Protac as part of the motherboards + Awe64 + controller cards package from Denmark and the CT1350B from the UK.

I took a chance on these a few days ago

Only $18 shipped, so if just one of them works I come out ahead. The two larger ones are G3-350mhz and 400mhz, the ZIFs are all G4-400 except for one that is G3-500.

It can be with one of the bigger ones. I have a 1ghz G4 in my 7500 and a 400mhz G3 in my 7600. the ZIF's can either go in a special carrier board for the older beige PCI Powermacs or fit in a socket in the Powermac G3's.

Yes. The slot-type modules would work as-is, because that's what they were intended for... x500/x600 series Power Macs. The ZIF ones can be used with a special carrier card, similar to the Slot1->S370 adapters in the PC world. The carrier cards are hard to find though, so if you want an upgrade it's probably best just to look for one of the slot type ones.

And just so you're aware: there were also G4 upgrades available for the old pre-G3 Powermacs. Stay away from those... they are not worth the troubles they cause.

I haven't had a single issue with my 1ghz G4 powered 7500. The only real problem is the 50mhz bus is a huge bottleneck to such a fast processor but between the CPU upgrade and the Radeon 9200 video card in it it plays games great. A lot better than you would expect from such an old system. I might even try Call of Duty on it one day when I get an ATA133 adapter and bigger hard drive for it.

It may be working nicely now, but you're almost certainly going to run into trouble when you put an ATA133 card in.

The six slot machines (i.e., 9500, 9600 and clones) are even more troublesome, because the G4s don't get along well with the dual PCI buses.
