Hey all!

I recently put together a 486DX2 system, running at 66mhz with approx 19mb of ram, a Aopen mother board (not sure of model at this time but it has all ISA slots with 3 being VLB), VLB video card (Cirrus based), VLB controller, SB Pro2, Music Quest MIDI controller, and a 2gb hard drive.

I've installed X-Wing (floppy), Wing Commander (floppy), and Indiana Jones Atlantis (CD-Rom) and both run fine with SB and SC-55mkII.

Here comes the issue: I tried running Doom engine based games (Doom 1/2 & Strife) and all hang at "R_INIT: Init Doom Refresh Daemon".

Here is what I've tried:

Disabling hidden refresh in bios
Disabling all sound
Changing IRQ/DMA on SB/MQ/VLB Controller
Adding/Removing RAM
WADs from various sources

I'm stumped at this point. Any suggestions?

I found that Wing Commander froze when using a Music Quest MIDI card (MQ32 I think it is) - have you tried running DOOM without that in the system?

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Had some time to work on it tonight -- took out the MIDI card as suggested with same results.

However, it appears that memory is the issue; popped a 4mb stick of FPM 70ns along with a stick of 8mb EDO and the game did finally boot, but crazy keyboard errors (mobo only supports FPM).

Just ordered a 16mb stick of FPM 60ns on eBay -- will do more testing when it comes in.
