Hey guys ive used dosbox a bit back a few years ago when i wanted to play alien trilogy, seemed to work fine and ok but im installing on another computer and i do have a couple of questions. I installed it with the option of pentium and 16 colors
So the first problem is that sometimes the game decides to slow down a bit, mainly during combat for about a second then goes back to normal speed even with combat still initiated but it usually repeats itself and gets a bit annoying. another problem is with the fullscreen.
Whenever i fullscreen alien trilogy, the sound plays the but the screen remains black no matter what, it goes to main menu then switches to a demo and i can still hear the sound and that but the screen remains black

Right now im using it so it auto launches a config file
mount c c:\
C:\
mount d d:\ -t cdrom (i am using a retail disk so this command is needed)
cd c:\acclaim\trilogy
trilogy

pretty much this mounts the hard drive then mounts the cdrom then launches the exe
This works and lets me play in window mode ok.
Suggestions are welcome and will be appreciated

I have a vague memory of the game being buggy even beyond the final version.
Speedup issues are probably not exclusive to DosBox - I think I had them in DOS as well.
At least the color issues can be fixed with the patch (I have the EU version, you might have the US one). Double buffering, page flipping and palette issues are corrected for the most common VGA cards:

+ A very good walkthru:

That doesnt solve the issue, the game runs fine to me and yeah ive patched using EU cos im using EU. i dont mind the slowing framerate sometimes its mainly the fact that i cannot go full screen but can still hear sound is whats annoying me and if i go out of full screen the game works fine

Yes, it should be moved to DosBox, that is the platform.

Thanks for moving the post
on lighter news, i figured out the problem, it was my cd drive, for some reason thats whats slowing it down. Maybe because its a blu ray drive i dunno. Anyways i created an iso out of the disc i got and did a imgmount instead, and it worked a little too well. Now its extremely fast 🤣. Can anyone tell me how cycles work? apparently according to dosboxs compatibility list or something like that 30000 cycles should run the game smoothly, yet it runs at a jerky framerate for me. Anyways like i said this is working fine on the laptop when its on max cycles using auto. is there anyway i could pull the cycle value of that so that i can manually specify on the pc?

You can adjust cycles on the fly and when you find the correct amount (ctrl+f11, ctrl+f12) put that in the conf file

You know, it takes about two minutes to make your dosbox more secure:
- make a folder in c:\ called dosgames
- move c:\acclaim into c:\dosgames
DONE!
Now you do almost exactly the same but instead of
mount c c:\
you do
mount c c:\dosgames
(I suggest you write that into the autoexec section of the config)

Then it's cool 😉
(Some games won't like that though or might fool you until you want to save 😉)
Happy playing 😉
