I want to buy a motherboard and a few other smaller items from a seller in California and get them shipped to Sweden
The weight is less than 10 pounds

The postoffice price seem to be $89.50 and the online price $81.45
This is for Priority Mail Express International

If I only go for a small item that is 3*3*1 inches with a weight of less than a pound the price would also be very high
$48 just because the item is thicker than 3/4 inch. Even if it was under 3/4 inch thick but over 1/4 inch thick the price would be about the same.

Is there a cheaper way to send the items to Europe?
Its hard to buy stuff from the US when shipping cost more than the items are worth 🙁

For comparison a letter with a couple of CPUs with a weight of 3oz and less than 1/4 inch thick is $3.20 which seems reasonable enough.

Half of the time it is people trying to rip others of but now there is a big risk of being scammed out. Shipping to some countries like Romania is sky high even for very small items (for example a book).

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

This deal is not Ebay related and the risk that I get scammed is negligible.
But I guess the USPS still have to insure the items and they can not know that.
But the stated value is 1$ so its not much to insure.

Of course that's expensive. A "letter with a couple of CPUs" will cost a lot of money too if you try to send it Priority Express.

If you don't mind waiting 4-6 weeks and take off tracking, odds are it will be much cheaper.

I could not find any such option
There used to exist shipping by boat and stuff but now I cant find anything cheaper than Priority Mail Express International
The point of this thread is to find those cheaper options if they do exist 😀

Thanks! Sometimes I am blind 😀

But that option does not seem to exist for a 10 pound "large package" (15*15*6 inches)

edit

But another option I also missed does

"Priority Mail International
Max. length 60", max. length plus girth combined 108"
6 - 10 business days $60.95 $56.07"

This is as cheap as I can find for a 15*15*6 inch 10 pound package

/edit

Well, you said the weight was less than 10 pounds. I'd wager it's a lot less, unless you're shipping power supplies or something.

Its not a Generic ATX motherboard 😉 I would guess ~2 pounds
The other items are somewhat heavy. Lets say another ~2 pounds
But with luck it is alot less than 10 pounds
It will probably be ~5 pounds.
I just want to be on the safe side when I check shipping costs while I still can back away.
5 pounds would be ~45$ if I remember right. (but I probably do not)

Yea that would be a good idea
I have a better scales than that but the items are a bit far away 😉

But with luck the seller has a decent scales as well

For those overseas who aren't aware. USPS no longer offers "surface" shipping methods, its all via air and expensive as a result. Don't expect tracking information unless you want to pay a bundle. All the parcel services (DHL, UPS, FedEx) are much more expensive.

The cheapest option is likely a package service that specializes in shipping to your particular country. I haven't found one that serves Sweden yet as I checked when someone there wanted to purchase an item I had for sale in another forum.

Somebody on Vogons recently mentioned shipito.com. When using their calculator for a 10 lbs package to Sweden they give TNT Economy as the cheapest option, although USPS costs nearly the same.

I think I will use USPS

I will just have to accept that 45$ is as cheap as its going to get.
I will try to get the price of the goods down a bit to offset the price of the shipping 😜

Thnaks for the help

You might conceivably get the package size down to below 12x12, unless it's a full-size motherboard and/or you really want it packed well.

Not this motherboard.

Its custom ATX.
Its an Intel Pr440fx. I have one already.
It is sold with CPUs... CPUs that I WANT + spare not so hot CPUs + memory that I need.
I was temted to buy only the CPUs and memory and ask the seller to scrap the board.
But then what would I do with my old Pentium Pro 200 CPUs... And no way Im letting a board like that end up in a dumpster.

Pay and be happy... thats my new motto

When shipping internationally I mostly use First Class International. Package can be up to 4 lbs. Most of the time it's at least $15 cheaper than Priority Mail.
