Retro gaming at its finest 😀

Got some time, wanted to try GLQuake and do some benchmarking and got a copy of Quake from eBay. However I can't figure out how to install it 😒

Under Windows 95 it tells me the executables are for DOS. Under DOS 7.0 I get this error message:

^ same as DOS software mode , nothing different at all.
I had it once when I had 68060 powered amigas, sadly the framerate sucked because the amiga chipset does not like chunky graphics. Not even a PPC accelerator helped to make the game enjoyable to me. It became fine with a 3D gfx card though, like the permedia2 or voodoo3 IIRC. But that setup worths thousands so not really a good alternative from a p1 machine that runs it way better...

Not true. There's an option for "dirty fast dynamic lighting" that has no falloff and it looks funny 😀

However it is not a total loss for Maxwurf. He can still extract PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK out of there, since it's those two files that matter the most. Those two should be placed in an id1 subdirectory, and from that point it's up to him to install any source port he wants 😀

Another way to do this is to install Quake shareware 1.06, then copy PAK1.PAK from AmigaQuake disc over, then install glquake/winquake/etcwhatever. Should be a completely normal copy of Quake at that point.

I found those files. Might give it a go 😀

I really wanted the original disc because of the CDDA tracks. I believe the Steam version of Quake doesn't include them.

Wanted to do some Voodoo benchmarking, but that project is now on the backburner. Might try your trick next weekend and see if I get anywhere.

I got the GLQuake installers and also various patches, so hopefully it all works fine. The Windows games all work without a hitch (G-Police, Turok Demo, Incoming, Forsaken, Tomb Raider, Quake 2, Unreal, MDK 2 (really slow though, might get the first one), Grand Prix and I have Messiah, but that one is a bit too new I believe.
