Are there any plans to port VDMSound to linux? Or is it even possible?

Sorry, but it is not. VDMSound is not a DOS emulator, it just provide virtual devices to the standard Windows NTVDM, so a DOS program believes it's running in a machine with a SoundBlaster card and a few more things. Since it's not a full emulator or a full VDM, it cannnot be ported to Linux.
If you want to run old DOS programs inside Linux you need dosemu or DOSBox.

🙁

Wasn't sure excactly what VDMSound did, that's why I asked. thanks for the info 😀

too bad dosbox is REALLY slow in linux. should be possible to make a dos-wrapper in linux too though, without having to emulate everything. 😀

anyone know of such a project?

It may be a bitch, but it's the answer to your "anyone know of such a project" question. (sic!)
