Hi there. Over the past few years I have been endeavoring to put together several vintage rigs so that I may once again enjoy my old games and applications and hopefully finally enjoy them the way they were meant to be enjoyed, not on the pathetic hardware I actually had to deal with back then. The rigs I plan on putting together will be a Pentium MMX rig, a Pentium III rig, and a Pentium 4 rig with a very special mobo I plan on acquiring. I've made limited progress to to finances and simply not being able to find the components I want but things are progressing slowly but surely.
I am seeking opinions on what certain hardware combinations you folks would recommend for certain tasks, and if there are any informative threads on this forum that I should look at, if you could kindly inform me of them or link to them I would appreciate it.
1. Is a Pentium MMX machine with any combination of graphics cards actually powerful enough to play the majority of games from 94-98, or would I be better served for instance combining older cards like the Voodoo 2, PCX, or Verite, with a Pentium III to gain desirable performance results?
2. For playing Glide games in addition to both early 90's 2d, and mid 90's 2d and 3d games, how much of a performance and compatibility difference would I experience between using Tseng 6000 or 6100 vs an S3 Virge vs Mystique card for 2d? I know for earlier dos games the card makes a fair amount of difference. What card do yo think is best to use with a Voodoo?
3. When it comes to 2d performance is there any difference worth noting between different versions of the Virge? DX, GX, etc?
Thanks
