Hi

Ive tried to run Ufo-Enemy Unkown with Dosbox 0.61

When im starting the game there are only flashing colors on the screen. No Sound or anything. After a few seconds Dosbox exits my back to Windows without any error message.

On the DosBox Website Ufo is listed as supported since Version 0.60

I had exactly the same problem on 0.60 before.

Ive tried to alter a few parameters in the config file but the problem stays the same.

Does somebody know what the problem is and how to fix it ?

My System :

Athlon XP 2800+
Ati Radeon 9600XT
512 MB RAM
SB Live Value
Windows XP Pro

what version of the game have you got?
i have tested versions 1.2 and 1.4 and they work.
maybe you have ver 1.0 (i don't have this one).
can you tell what is the exact size of the file Roland.cat in the \Sound\ folder, and what is it's date?

hm.. that file is not a good for version testing cause it seems to be the same in all versions

i have a patch updating to 1.2 and also the one that updates to 1.4 and one of the files that is being changed is dos4gw.exe

could you check your size and date of this file?

and one additional question - how many files have you got in sound folder?

don't use gus emulation in ufo unless you take a newer version of dos4gw.

The one supplied with xcom is buggy when gus emulation is enabled.
(the crashing has been traced back to a non-cleared segment somewhere in older (1.95) version of dos4gw ( it think it was in a memory free routine somewhere)

Ive found my old original Floppy Version of Ufo on a CD. THIS ONE WORKS ! Ive played already a few hours and it seems this Version runs without any problems and very stable.

I dont know why but this really old Version runs with DosBox and the other Version that i had downloaded somewhere (Must be a later Version because of the Setup Menu that has much more Soundcards to choose) doesnt work.

Really strange.

I'm having problems with UFO as well...everything works fine until I go to put my first base down, then it crashes back to the desktop...

Any ideas?

Update: Crash is as follows:

"D:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0000 IP:0077 OP:f0 37 05 0e 02 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application"

Is this a VDMsound problem?

This is a windows problem and has nothing to do with dosbox. You are trying to run your game in windows NTVDM shell.

That's odd, I thought I was running it in DosBox....weird.
