I made this guide for running LBA1 in DOSBox.

I intend to make an LBA2 guide, but first I'd like to get somefeedback. I'd appreciate if you try this and give me some feedback. Thanks 😀

EDIT: the guide is now complete and also guides LBA2.

2 points:

add -exit to autoclose on game exit.

futher the -ioctl switch isn't available under linux.

I see nowhere noted that you got most of this great info from either
this forum or another forum.

Ok fixed 😀
I also added credits for the info.

Again, I'd appreciate if someone can confirm that this guide is helpful.

LBA2 installs fine but doesn't run, just tells me to insert the CD.
I used the dosbox.conf from the guide and my own, nothing works. 🙁

weird... did you mount d -t cdrom?

Yes, of course. The CD is accessed for a second, and then is tells me to insert the CD. I get a graphic of Twinsen and Zoe with that message in front and the typical twinsen error-sound, so everything else is in order.

Do you emulate a real CD Rom drive or juste a folder mouted as CD Rom Drive ? I noticed that is has no the same effect with the game : Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space !

When I copy all the CD content into a folder, then this folder mounted as a CD Rom drive ... It's doesn't work ... (the game run, not the videos) ...

When I use a real CD Rom drive mounted as CD Rom drive, it's work fine ...

How it's about you?

PS : Sorry for my bad english

I mount a real dvd-drive. I also tried copying the files to a dir and mounting it, but it gives me the same error. 🙁

Maybe you should try "-label (CD label here)" and "-ioctl" in the mount d line.

Try it and tell me if it works 😀

I already have -ioctl and -label LBA2 in my mount cmd. I also tried Dosbox 0.60 and 0.61 with the same results.

GNU/Linux, SuSE9Pro, running Linux 2.6.4
gcc ist 3.3.1 but I checked with 2.95 too without success. I will try a current cvs snapshopt of dosbox and gcc 3.4, maybe this will help. But after this, I'm running out of ideas... 🙁

well cdrom support under linux isn't as advanged as under windows.

you could try -usecd 1 or -usecd 0

With -usecd 1 I get a segmentation fault, with -usecd 0 nothing changes. Well, I guess back to gdb... 🙁

I tried the cvs version and it is worse. I even don't get to see the error message, dosbox crashes instantly.
Well, I guess I have to wait for the 0.62... 🙁

Indeed.
The CVS doesn't run LBA2 at all (unlike v0.61), but it runs LBA1 very goodly.

I don't have LBA1. I used to have it, but it got lost somehow. Our local stores used to sell combo LBA1+LBA2 boxes, but they quickly run out of them and now they only have LBA2.

LBA1 runs just peachy in my DosBox... the only problem I had was the speech file transfer not running. Manual copying solves this though.

Is there a demo of LBA anywhere anymore? Getting that running might be a bit easier, and I remember liking it many years ago when I run tried it.

Btw. Being attention-deficit & annoyed about game protections, I prefer demos to the games they are demonstrating. They are easier to install and significantly smaller. I've of course bought a few really good games once they are at discount prices but because copy protections make them so awkward to install & use (especially on Linux), I'm often tempted just to forget about bying a real version...
