I have been playing TR1 with Glidos and VDMSound on Windows XP for some time and now all of the sudden experience the following problem:
As soon as I try to start the game, the Glidos box tells me that "Pipe creation failed 231" . If I then ignore this and still press "start game" a little box pops up saying "OS detection failed". I know next to nothing about computers and really am at a loss here. 🙁
Can someone give me some (simple!) advice, please?
Thanks in advance.

A simple step to do: reinstall the latest version of Glidos (1.27) 😀

Hi Kaminari 😀
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried to reinstall Glidos, but it still tells me that "Pipe creation failed 231".
Do I have to uninstall the older version of Glidos first?
And if so, how do I do it? I can only DELETE it, but can not find a way to UNINSTALL it.
Sorry for the bother.

Just delete the Glidos folder. And probably a good idea to delete the tombraid folder too, and reinstall TR1 using the installer on the glidos
web site.

The "Pipe creation Failed 231" thing happens when you try to run two games (or two invocations of the same game) simultaneously. Games show up in Task Manager as ntvdm.exe. Kill any of those you see. Or log off and back on.

I concur, I have had the same problem when inadvertently running two copies of Glidos.

....or I'll go insane

After having problems with TR1 (installed with Bokkies instaler, Glidos + VDMSound) I gave up, deleted and reinstalled it all but it still is not working: I can't get the sound to work!
Now, i know next to nothing about computers and I just can't figure out what exactly the problem is. When I try to run the game from the Glidos box it works fine, but with no sound.
I definitely installed VDMSound, so where is it - why does it not work?
From last time I seem to remember that I had to rightclick somewhere and choose the option of :"run with VDMSound" and it had to have a little musical note, but my Glidos file does not have this option and if I try to do this on the TOMB exe file, of course it tells me that the server is not present.
Can someone please, please help me

Thank you

You do "Run with VDMS" on the setup.exe in the tombraid file, and let setup autodetect the settings for VDMSound. So you were very close. 😁

🙁 Well, I have tried now - and I do have a sound now, but........
after it has taken me through the FMVs to the starting bit with the passport and I press "enter" to start a new game it all crashes back to the desktop. If then I click "start game" in the Glidos box again, it tells me:"Can't copy PollPipe.dll to C:\Tombraid".
So, now what can that be and what can I do about it????????? 😕

Do you have the PollPipe.dll library in your Glidos folder?

Hi Kaminari

If by library you mean file (sorry, but I have never heard of a "library" 😊 ) then the answer is yes. I have got a file called "PollPipe.dll" with a little icon featuring a green and an orange cog (wheel) in front of it in my Glidos folder. I have tried to copy a picture of it into this post, but I'm afraid I don't know how to do it.
I also do apologize for my English and only hope that I can make myself halfway understood.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you (or anybody else) about this.
Thanks very much

Hi everyone and thanks for your help, I've got it going! 😁
Or should I say :as good as?
It takes ages to get the game started, usually it freezes already at the Eidos sign right at the beginning and I have to restart it again and again, sometimes up to 10 times. And then (usually when I'm just about to give up 😠 ) all of the sudden the game starts and runs like a dream. So then I play and Lara is running about and doing what she does and all of the sudden FREEZES 😳 and there is no way to get her out of it other than with the task manager, where I have to end it all and start all over again.
I really AM PLEASED that I've got it running, but playing this way is quite tiredsome 🙄 , so can I please ask you all again for advice. What can I do about it??
Thanks a lot in advance
