crash's immediately upon either, and gives me a windows box for glidos with read failure. This is on XP with a dvd drive. I thought it might be a problem with the disc not being read fast enough, but the movies load and play correctly, and the failure occurs instantly. Anyone have an idea on what I could try?

That sounds like the problem people get when they have a graphics card with dodgey OpenGL support. What graphics card is it?

The card I'm using is an NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8x

I can post a dxdiag.txt if you think it'd be helpful 😀

Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the card from nVidia's site?

This is very strange. If I remember rightly, Redguard uses Glide calls to play the movies. If you set up Glidos in windowed mode, do you see the movies play in a window?

Does it crash independently of whether you let the movies run or skip them?
