This is going to be kinda cool. 🤣

Is this a vote? If so, then I vote for Undernet. This way I don't need to have another server tab open.
Plan your life wisely, you'll be dead before you know it.
Freenode's scope is for open-source projects. I don't think we qualify as such.
2xP2 450, 512 MB SDR, GeForce DDR, Asus P2B-D, Windows 2000
P4 2.6, 1 GB DDR1, Radeon 9600 Pro, P4P800, Windows XP
Alpha 21164, 512 MB, Permedia 2, KZPCM, AlphaPC 164, NT 4.0
I didn't think we'd actually be VOTING for what IRC to use!
😎 this is gonna be awesome.
I own too many computers to count.
Too many bloody networks and no one wanting to open yet another server tab. Everyone just start a channel on their own favorite network and pray for visitors 😀
Are folks still using Mirc?

X-Chat was the last client I used if I remember correctly.
New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.
That's linux. IIRC Irssi is a nice Linux console client.
I've never used IRC in DOS. What clients exist for it?

Why not just use #dosbox on freenode as has been suggested before? Many users are already there...

You've never heard or ircjr? It's part of the mTCP suite of Dos network programs http://www.brutman.com/mTCP/IRCjr.html I use it on my 286/12.
There's also leetIRC http://www.rubbermallet.org/software/leetirc.html
There's also a client for the Arachne browser you can use.

Apparently 32-bit is dead and nobody likes P4s.
Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉
There's also the Vogons steam community group which has a Steam-based chatroom. You can even link to it 😀
Looks like #vogons on freenode was registered by SStrife in 2014-03-09, but he was last seen in 2014-03-27... we can always ask freenode staff to free this channel. 😀
On the other hand, #dosbox channel is a pure silence despite a lot of users are there or it might be that I came at the wrong time. 😀

It would help if the link worked.

As Caluser2000 pointed out, there are at least two IRC clients that run in DOS.
And for those of you who want to use DOSBox, that is not a problem either - the HAL9000 megabuilds support networking. (I use DOSBox for most of my mTCP testing.)
A brief how-to can be found here: http://www.brutman.com/mTCP/mTCP_virtual_environments.html

Not necessary, that _should_ be SquallStrife who posts here 😁

Tuxaluty, that there was total silence in #dosbox is normal for any irc room. There are times people speak and times when not...

There XChat shareware for windows but there are free windows variant from the same source code. One is called HexChat https://hexchat.github.io/

Thanks, for some reason I thought X-chat was Linux-only. Konversation and Quassel are also nice Linux clients IIRC.

Hello all, it has been a while I don't write here, but I'm always reading your posts with great pleasure, VOGONS is the real last rampart of the Net, regarding PC retrohardware /gaming nostalgia and restoration... so, one more time, THANKS to this nice community.
I own an HP Proliant server mod. ML350g6, running Debian Linux - time ago I've talked you about it in the 'Dumpster Findings' area of the forum - since I've restored and fixed it, I'm using it 24/7 for many tasks: virtual machines, BOINC, dedicated game server for Minecraft with McMyAdmin, Haf-Life, StarBound, Space Engineers, dedicated IPX server for DOSBox multiplayer sessions, great Kerbal Space Program multiplayer server mod, etc., together with SDR radio server, forum with phpBB, and others... since a couple of weeks I'm hosting my own custom IRC server with UnrealIRCd linux package, to experiment with IRC bots too (at the moment EggDrop and Sopel) - I would be really pleased to share with this community its use, as I can - if you want to use IRC and maybe make #vogons channel and others the dyndns address of the host is juggernaut.doomdns.org on IRC standard port 6667 - if you want to visit my BBS you can reach it on rasppi.servebbs.org on telnet standard port 23 (better to use ANSI enabled clients).
2nd thought: is there anyone who would play old Ultima Online shard re-created by RunUO etc. on this server? I'm studying a way to do this, years ago I've setup a new Ultima Online server on Raspberry Pi, but just to experiment with it (no spawns, etc.) - maybe I can share this project with others 😀
Keep in touch!

There are a few retro computing IRC channels out there but none for vogons AFAIK. Curious to see the interest in this.
