I've been using VirtualBox for a long time, especially under Windows. But for whatever reason the audio is extremely flaky on Linux than the Windows version.

I really just need a VM just for the sole purpose of running ImpulseTracker's ITSB16.MMX driver, which dosbox (not even Daum) can handle without locking up.

Have you tried VirtualBox 5 (currently RC)? It has a new audio architecture, so it might be better.

PCem dev versions do handle Pentium MMX and WinChip MMX processors though it really requires something fast for that to be effective.

I forget if QEMU had MMX emulation or not.

Fast in what regard? I'm still on a Phenom II Deneb quad core at 2.66 GHz

You want as many IPC as possible, so anything from Intel's main line of CPUs from 2011 and onwards will be quite faster than anything from AMD.

A Core i7 fast, which means nothing AMD can offer at this point in time.

I think you'd be fine even with a Pentium, as long as it's clocked high enough or is PCem able to take advantage of multiple cores?

Well I guess PCEm and a lot of other things are out of the question since I'm stuck on such a poor mans CPU...

I'll give this VBox5 a try if I can find time to get it setup.
