Let us know how you get on with the testing
Finally 470pF caps arrived.
In tracks with use of filter difference is audible.
And probably my "new" 6581 (R2) is also somewhat defective. Because that's how it sounds on "Castlevania_64_Mixes.sid" with 470pF caps - not healthy. Eh, whatever, at least filter works in some way, but sometimes filtered sound is a little deaf (not always).
That's how 1nF (SSI-2001 default value) compared to 470pF (C64 default value for 6581):
Blackmail_Tune_1.sid: [6581R2 1nF filter caps] [6581R2 470pF filter caps] [8580R5 22nF filter caps]
Rambo_3.sid: [6581R2 1nF filter caps] [6581R2 470pF filter caps] [8580R5 22nF filter caps]
Ruzzians.sid: [6581R2 1nF filter caps] [6581R2 470pF filter caps] [8580R5 22nF filter caps]
Blackmail_Tune_1.sid: compare from 1:44 - listen for the bass line and snare. Very deaf with 1nF caps, a little crisper with 470pF. But far from 8580R5 with 22nF, probably because my 6581R2 is not functioning properly.
Rambo_3.sid: compare from 0:49 - listen for the bass line once again (it's filtered). Crisper with 470pF caps, sound very close to 8580R5.
Ruzzians.sid: compare from 1:56 - with 1nF bass line is distorted, clipping. With 470pF a little better, but still very deaf. Both variants far from 8580R5.
And some more audio!
Pseudo-stereo, left channel is 6581R2 with 470pF, right channel is 8580R5 with 22nF:
Coma_Light_IX_n_a_bit_part_2.sid
Eternal-Funk_Remix.sid
Experience_2_tune_1.sid
Waiting.sid
Zardax_One.sid
6581R2 is more smooth and "bassy", but filter sometimes goes too low (deaf and quiet sound). 8580R5 is more ruff, crisper and has less bass.
