What would be good ps/2 mice to look out for? Or usb mice that work with a ps2/usb adapter?
Mainly for playing games, but can be for other purposes too.

The Logitech SBF96 for me , I got a bunch of them . PS/2 only , 2 buttons , a scrollwheel and optical (even work with amiga adapters without probs).
An excellent mouse for retro uses IMHO.
Logitech MX518 USB mouse that works as PS/2.
Logitech Mouseman 3 button mouse. Works great with a serial adapter for old machines! Plus they are bullet proof reliable.
Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1
I like microsoft mice and keyboards, especially late 90's intellimouse, they feel amazing and are mega robust. I just can't find this simplicity allied to build quality anymore.

I have one and like it a lot. Also, the MX310, if you are a fan of symmetrical mice (that can also be comfortably used by left-handed people). Most of my mice are the MX310.

MX510 or MX518.
MX510 is supported by Mouseware 9.80 on Win9x and that can be useful.

Agree 100%
By far the best ball mouse I have ever used.
And I would still be using it, but I use my PC to output to my TV, and it got a little troublesome using the mouse some distance from the computer, so now I use the basic optical mouse. But I used that mouse model exclusively for 15 years.
There are better options out there but I use a Logitech Click! M/N: M-BT85
I don't bother with the "feature" button or software, but is a good basic optical scroll mouse that works with PS2 adaptor
Gotta add that I absolutely adore the back and forward functions (which are the defaults assigned to the 4th and 5th mouse buttons), so at this point I will not use any mouse with less than 5 buttons.

I have the same dilemma. One thing is for sure it won't be a ball mouse. I think Mitsumi/Logitech used to make durable computer mouses. Anyway, I bought this one, but I haven't used it.

Looks like the Explorer 1. 3 is more common. The former looks bigger and more comfortable to be honest, but I can't tell until I have them both in my mouse collection.

Correct, it's costly too, new sells for around $30-$60 on eBay.
This one is also looks interesting, but too bad for me since it's a ball mouse.

Looks like a fancy version of my 3 button Mouseman. Although a ballmouse it is very smooth and responsive, just need a halfway decent mousepad.

Well, my problem with a ball mouse is that all kind of crap gets inside and then you have to waste your time cleaning it.

I second to it. The original new MX310 can be still bought from Korea.
MX518 for life! 😎
Is the original Intellimouse really the best mechanical mouse? I have one, and even with desktop usage at low resolutions, I reach the threshold where it deaccelerates badly.

I have two PS/2 Mice I absolutely love:
Logitech / Compaq M-S69
And for my 90's computers I use a Compaq MUS4J
Both are ball mice, after switching to optical 6+ years ago I finally got sick of them. Optical mice just don't have the right weight or balance to them (or something, they are just kinda weird feeling) and they are WAY more sensitive than a ball mouse which makes them pretty useless for anything other than playing FPS games. Now that I've switched back to ball, I've had to clean it once or twice but the feeling is just perfect, optical mice have nothing on ball mice. 😁
