I got, next to free, a 486 motherboard made by Mitac (actualy Tyan), model IH4077D.

I thought it was a simple vlb board, but i never heard about the Efar EC802 chipset.

Does someone here had ever seen this board?

I'd be more worried about the exposed EPROM. If it still works, get an (E)EPROM programmer and back it up ASAP. Also, use some black tape and cover it up.

This chipset could be just a rebranded one. I have a DataExpert 486 with an ALi chipset rebranded as ExperColor.

That's what I was thinking. I got nothing upon trying to look up this chipset, so it's probably relabeled.

I was worried about the bios too, one broken leg and some others bended.

After some soldering, the bios was dumped and looks ok , but i'm not sure.

Im from Rio de Janeiro, and you?

Maybe a relabeled chipset, but Efar was a true chipset manufacturer in the age of 386 chipset.

I'm from Minas Gerais, not that far away =)
I'd get a compatible EEPROM chip and program it just to be safe.
Also, my 486, despite the rebranded chipset, displays "ALI" as part of the BIOS ID string that shows up during POST. Perhaps you could identify your like that.

I dont think its a just relabeled chipset now:

- Another motherboard uses the same chipset: DFI G486-EVB http://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/Archive/Dfi/man … evb/486evbc.pdf

- This chipset has his own bios string http://www.kva.kursk.ru/bios1/numbers.shtml

- Efar was a true chip manufaturer bought by smsc in 1996.

Would be great resurrect this board and benchmark this strange chipset.

And now SMSC has been bought by (or merged with) Microchip Technologies. It's incredible how these companies change over time.
I wonder if Microchip Tech. still have the specs for that chipset.

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Ah, it seems this is a newer QFP than on the boards i've seen. Here is is an 802... whereas on the the other boards it's an earlier 798 revision.
