/\ How would google EVER benefit from that. IE6 is old, outdated and unsupported, and they probably just updated something and did not test. Also, they probably have some ancient code serving a fallback page for IE5.5 and below, and not IE6 (from the time IE6 was still relevant), and then they are trying to use newer features on the old dog.

On Windows XP and below? Who in their right mind would still be using IE6 in a XP machine as a main browser? And Chrome doesn't support anything below XP (where IE6 is the last IE version), so even if older OSes were still relevant on the internet, they would gain nothing there. I really believe this was just an oversight that will probably not be corrected anytime soon, because IE6 is just not relevant enough.
