I'm from the US and brand name foreign computers look pretty cool. Just as nice as US based models. I see newer Packard bells plus older and newer Fujitsu Siemens PCs on Ebay from time to time. There are several UK and German vendors on there that sell vintage era stuff. Does anybody here on Vogons collect international computers? If yes, I'd love to see some pictures! 😁

No.

1: They appear rarely domestically.
2: Buying them abroad means extreme shipping charges.

3. They tend to require step-down converters
4. They often require monitors that can sync to PAL frequencies and color modulation

I do have a selection of "foreign" computers, mostly Sinclair ZX Spectrum clones from the Eastern Bloc from the 1980s and early '90s. But then, I was born there and just brought them along when I moved to the US 20 years ago. Adapters for power and video are not a big deal if you know what to look for.

Picture of HC-91, ZX clone with attached 3.25"/700k FDD and tape recorder used for mass storage. SInce the time the picture was taken the tape recorder has been replaced twice, first with an mp3 player, and lately with a piece of hardware called interface-1bis that provides storage on SD card, plus other goodies. https://sites.google.com/site/interface1bis/

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,
I/O, I/O

Only collect IBM-Compatible/PC stuff, as other systems are too expensive.
Nor do I have any real attachment towards other systems than Amiga's and C64.
Not even C16 is for me. Mac's. Well...
If someone gave one to me, I would play and then pass it on as a gift.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

The only truly "foreign" computer I have (In that it was never released in my country) is my plasma-screen Toshiba T2100, which was only released in parts of Europe. It's almost identical to the T3100 (Which was released in the US), but with an 8086 processor instead of a 286. Happily, it has a 115/230 switchable power supply, so I had no problem powering it up.

My OTHER Toshiba T2100 (486DX2-50) that I currently have originally came from either the UK or Australia, not entirely sure. But, I don't consider it foreign because it was also released in the US. This is actually why there are two totally different Toshiba computer models with the same model number. 🤣

The specific Toshiba T5100 that I currently have originally came from Germany, but again I really don't consider it foreign because it was also released here in the US.

The only real domestic computers we had in the Netherlands where the Philips P2000, the Philips MSX line and Philips pc-compatible and Tulip compatibles.
So technical speaking all other pc's are foreign.

By "foreign" computers do you mean computers not officially sold in one's country?

If so, not that much. I live in Europe and most things were available at some point, so the few ones remaining required too much effort/money to acquire while at the same time didn't have any sentimental value (remember, never sold in the country...) Examples: some Japanese stuff are too expensive due to limited availability, while computers extensively sold in the US, like Tandys, need power converters. I can't refrain myself though from admitting that I'd really play the hell out of an original FM Town!

If not, then my answer is an effortless "yes", everything is foreign for many of us 😀

I collect only foreign although a few where made in Slovenia (a part of Yugoslavia back then).

Iskra Delta Triglav from 1985:
publishwall_1388064622_5256171.jpg

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triglav_%28computer%29

Triglav was a computer from Slovenia developed in the 1980s and manufactured by Iskra Delta. It had options for three different central processing units (DC J11-AC, Intel iAPX 80286 and Motorola MC 68010) and could therefore run several different operating systems that were popular at the time (such as XENIX, OS-9, MS-DOS and RMX). Also supported was a hard drive with a capacity between 40 and 80 MB, 5.25" floppy drive and a microstreamer tape drive.[1]

The computer is named after the Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain. With the name meaning "three-headed" it also symbolises the three CPU architectures supported by its design.

Some specifications - yes, three completely different systems 😉

It was also available in black:

If by foreign you mean never sold in your home country (or non-English systems for that matter), then generally I don't, but that's only because most of the ones I'd be interested in would be too costly to purchase and then import.

Though I probably will try and import an MSX computer at some point in the future, definitely want one of those for my collection and they were practically non-existant here in the UK.

I dunno if a PAL market Amiga 1200 counts as foreign, but a NEC PC-9821, Sharp X68000, and Fujitsu FM-Townes certainly do.

Native, foreign, as long as it has something special to it I'm happy 😀

For example, I'm quite happy with my Tulip PC Compact 2 (native). Because it is one of the faster 10MHz V20 computers around.
My Philips P3105/3120 computers, also turbo XT with onboard almost everything including XTA. 768kB base ram, all usable with some tricks (native)
IBM model 30, the computer I started learning DOS on (foreign).
IBM ps/valuepoint, because it's my fastest 486 (foreign).
Multitech MPF-PC, very early IBM PC clone. (Acer before Acer existed, foreign).

So yes I collect foreign, but no to because of it. Just because it had something special.

Stuck at 10MHz...
