Hi,

I have a nice 386DX40 system in which I had a SB16 Vibra16C card which worked with no problems both in DOS and Win3.1. That seems to be a PnP ISA card as the Diagnose and CTCM utilities from Creative find it properly (at the usual address 220H, IRQ 5, etc).

However I replaced it with a Sound Blaster 16 Value (which has a CT1745A and CT1747 chip on it) and the computer (read CTCM/Diagnose/SB16 Install programs) cannot find it on any of the addresses (220, 240, 260 and 280H). Now I believe this being an older card is not PnP and at such it might have to be set up other way.

The question is what way? It is also possible the card is dead but very likely I just don't know how to set it up in DOS. Any ideas?

Regards,
Vlad.

Non PnP cards were configured with jumpers.

I actually have versions with and without separate line and speaker outputs. Both are missing some of the configuration headers and both are missing Waveblaster headers, so I just don't use 'em.

Check what headers you have, but the usual default configuration from factory is SB I/O 220h, IRQ 5, DMA 1,5, MPU I/O 330h

Thank you, I found this page that shows the jumpers for my CT2770: https://th99.bl4ckb0x.de/i/C-D/53592.htm.

The problem is, having the environment variable set to the default values (which is what the jumpers are too) the sound card does not work properly. Many games output nothing, the only one I got some sound out of was Eye Of The Beholder 2 for which the sound is pretty bad ( a lot of clipping and low frequencies).

I am thinking maybe something is actually wrong with the card. 🙁
