I am a new user.
I have many programs that I have written and used; Fortran F77.
Been using them in XP Pro. Use CMD command, etc.
I am preparing to transition to WIN 10 but have read conflicting reports that DOSBox might not work in WIN 10.
So I am trying DODBox in WIN 7 to become familiar with DOSBox and how it works.
I installed DOSBox in a WIN 7 computer, mounted directories and files as required.
Trying to run an EXE and get the following message:
THIS PROGRAM CAN NOT BE RUN IN DOS MODE.
My understanding is that it should work.
Any information, help or suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS.

First of all, DOSBox questions should be asked in the DOSBox forum. A mod might be kind enough to move this for you. Second, note that DOSBox is intended for games, not programs. There are missing things that are not required for games for performance gains. Some of these things like share are required for many applications. DOSBox IS NOT SUITED TO RUN YOUR NON-GAMING DOS APPLICATION

Lastly, the DOS mode error message means that it is a Windows program, not DOS.

My apologies Collector, I had difficulty finding the place to pose the question.
DOS programs. math primarily should be a breeze, much simpler programming than games.
I'll try to run the programs directly in WIN 10.
Still looking for a home for my DOS programs when I go to WIN 10.

Any help??

Are the binaries proprietary or can you post an example? I suspect these are not DOS executables but Windows executables instead.

GDJ: You would like to see the code before compile?
Tell me exactly what you would like to see, I'll post it.
Asking: If the EXE runs in XP Pro 32 would it be unable to run in WIN 10 64?
Have not tried, just assumed that it would not.

I'd recommend giving it a try on Win 10. My suspicion is that they are Windows PE executables. If you want to know for sure, send me one of the compiled programs and I can inspect it for you.

As far as recompiling the source code, we can certainly discuss it, but probably not in the DOS forum. 😈

FYI... Fortran Compiled F77 and F90 programs are Windows programs, and run just fine in Windows 10.
Looking for a new compiler that will work in WIN 10.
GDJ, THANKS.

Excellent, you should have lots of choices for compiler. PM me if you want to discuss.
