Hi,

i'm searching for a Mainboard for a 1,4Ghz Nehemiah C3,
anyone know one ?

i didnt came across one that will take it.
just Samuel II compatible boards 😒

I think you need a Tualatin compatible board for this cpu. Asus tusl2-c is a good one but there are many others.

There used to be a VIA C3 compatibility list on their website, but it appears the page is gone now.
It wasn't very helpful though as it didn't list which chip was compatible with which board though, but in theory Tualatin board should be compatible, but I don't know of any way for sure.

I do know that I once tried a Nehemiah in a non-Tualatin board which in fact did support the needed lower voltage and it did complete post with the correct voltage applied to the CPU but I think I ran into some problem later and never bothered to try again as I had other options anyway (I had regular Tualatin boards and this was just to relieve me of my curiosity 😁 ).

I'll go check if I can find that list somewhere as it might help you cut down the list of potential boards to try if the board doesn't officially support C3.

I'm mistaken, its a 1.2Ghz Chip, yes i have one.
it has a C5P Core with 2x RNG and ACE, also supporting SMP.

i already tried a tualatin board from Asus (TUSL) and it doesnt go beyond POST, just memory count and end.

Ok, I got some bad news and some good news.

First the bad: I can't find the list that was on VIA's website and at first sight it appears no other website bothered to copy it's information.
Also this website http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/cgi-bin/MB_Chart.pl might have some relevant information, but as far as I can see I'd have to go through all the motherboard models one by one 🤣

Now for the good news: I found that I downloaded the list from VIA's website, so I'll just go and copy it's content right here. It's not perfect, but it's a start, hold on...

According to this VIA C3/C7 Discussion it should work with the tusl2

Try another bios, confirm the board works fine with another cpu, try different ram, try different vga card. Or your cpu might be defective?

I have had a ASUS CUV/4X running OK with a C3 866MHz, the BIOS however does not report correctly, reports a Pentium II cpu! 🤣 I have a ASUS TUSL2 Intel 815E board I can test with it that is any help?

I had good results using the C3 Nehemiah Processor on the different Slot-1 i440BX boards that I have available. Just that the right slotket had to be put in between: The 'MSI MS-6905 Master' or 'UpgradeWare Slot-T'. In most cases these boards use the latest 'Tualatin patched' unofficial BIOS.
A similar thing was done with a VIA Apollo Pro Socket 370 board, where I used a 'Lin-Lin Adapter' to convert Socket 370 to 370-T, for running it with a Tualatin and later the C3 Nehemiah.

It needs to be a Tuv4x because that's the one that supports tualatin/nehemiah cores. I believe yours is an older core that works fine on a ''normal'' s370 board. I have a few tualatin boards but i have no c3 cpu's.

But i think his cpu is faulty or something else is going on as his board should run it perfectly. Even reviewers for that cpu used the Asus Tusl2-c.

I have used a number of VIA C3 CPUs for years (Samuel2, Ezra and Nehemiah) and I can confirm you that Nehemiah core can work on coppermine motherboards. I used them on a number of VIA 694X boards. Also on Apollo pro 266 (not T). Of course they also run on Tualatin boards. Some of them identified it as a PII. If I remember the TUV4X was sucho of those, but the SL-65KV2-T identified it correctly as a C3 CPU. All the range of GIgabyte S370 VIA boards from 693A to 694T work well. Also QDI (Advance-10 and Advance 10T) and MSI (6309) boards.

I also think that no nehemiah revision for 370 socket supported SMP. And BGA models didn't implement it in any design.

Combinations that I tested for sure:

693A -> Samuel2 / Ezra
694X -> Samuel2 / Ezra / Nehemiah
694T -> Nehemiah
Apolo pro 266 -> Nehemiah

i saw a report that while nehemiah managed to power on on an asus cusl2, its VCC is incorrectly detected as 2.0v, which would burn it up soon.

This sounds really discouraging for me as I have two spare Socket 370 boards, both Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ boards with 693A chipsets (Rev. 1.0 and Rev 3.0, not sure what's the difference), on which I'm running Ezra and Ezra-T C3s and are being used as DOS test computers since I can alter their multipliers and enable/disable their cache on-the-fly, but I've been quite underwhelmed by their Windows performance even when overclocked (neither CPU can keep up with an AMD K6-III+ overclocked to 600MHz). Hello,

Ezra-T is also a Tualatin compatible core. If it works on the GA-6VXE7+, there are chances that the Nehemiah C3 will also work on it. Not sure about the voltage issue, but 1st generation Ezra is the one with the lowest operating voltage: 1.35V, and works on 693A boards. I remember reading that VRM spec for coppermines coluld go as low as 1.2V, so no problem, electrically. Another issue is VID management of the board. I have also GA-6VXE7+ units laying around somewhere (two of them). I'll try to test a Nehemiah on those when I have spare time and find them. Of course, I guess that the CPU is not going to be recognized properly because it should be too recent for the BIOS date.

Before finding that there were replies to my post, today, I was, funnily, doing some testing to rearrange CPUs in boards and making room for some new tualatins I got from ebay. Wanted to move a Nehemiah from a 694T board to a 1.5 GB capable 694X one (my remaining 694T boards are second tier and only support up to 1GB).

I think that the results will be useful for both posters:

CPU: 1.1GHZ Nehemiah core
MB 1: GA-6VXC7-4X-P : 694X/686B with one ISA slot, AMI BIOS F9 (03/12/2001), not latest: refuses to post with 5 short codes meaning CPU error. Boots OK with a 1 GHz Coppermine.
MB 2: GA-6VX7-4X: 694X/686A with no ISA slot 🙁, AMI BIOS F45 (latest): boots up recognizing an unknown VIA CPU ID:0694. BIOS Monitoring reports 1.439V VCORE.
MB 3: HP OEMized MSI MS-6318: 694X/686A Boots and enters memtest. It is totally confused about FSB speed, multiplier and CPU manufacturer.

I have found some minutes ago one of my GA-6VXE7+ boards, this unit had VRM recaped with OSCON polymer caps When I savaged it had all those capacitors bulging ant still worked!!. Its a grat board: two ISA slots and 1.5 GB of SDRAM supported.

I have tested a 1 GHz Nehemiah on it. Adjusted manually FSB and multiplier just in case that it helps.

Good news!. It posts, reporting a VIA Cyrix III 1000MHz. That is the same string used for the C3 Samuel 2 (pre-Ezra) it had installed previously. CPU ID: 0693, PATCH ID: 0000.

GA-6VXE7+ rev 3.0. BIOS F6b 09/11/2000 693A/596B

No way to know about VCORE without a multimeter. This board has no integrated monitoring. At VRM capacitor output it measures 1.433V. Within spec. 😀.

FYI: There is no 1.0 rev of this board. It is a slightly different board (I have another two) without the E letter: GA-6VX7+ if I recall correctly. The main difference: the older model supports PPGA Mendocino core.

This sounds really discouraging for me as I have two spare Socket 370 boards, both Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ boards with 693A chipsets (Rev. 1.0 and Rev 3.0, not sure what's the difference), on which I'm running Ezra and Ezra-T C3s and are being used as DOS test computers since I can alter their multipliers and enable/disable their cache on-the-fly, but I've been quite underwhelmed by their Windows performance even when overclocked (neither CPU can keep up with an AMD K6-III+ overclocked to 600MHz). I was hoping Nehemiah CPUs would work, but if every 693A board you've tried rejects Nehemiah C3s, I'm stuck, and unless there are boards using the chipsets you've tested compatible with at least one ISA slot and SBLink, the Nehemiah C3 I ordered will be completely useless.

I honestly have no idea what's different between this revision and Rev. 3.0. All I know is this motherboard is MUCH slower than my Soyo SY-6BA+ with Intel's 440BX chipset, at least with a 1GHz Pentium III, 512MB of RAM and a Voodoo 3 2000. I couldn't get the Nehemiah C3 working properly on the SY-6BA+, unfortunately, as the motherboard would lock the FSB to 66MHz as it would get stuck in Safe Mode. I've tried a few older 440BX boards and even a dual-slot 440LX board from (eww) PCChips, but the CPU wouldn't POST in any of these. I didn't test the Nehemiah C3 on Rev. 1.0 of the GA-6VXE7+ and I'm honestly not sure if the BIOS revision is the same between my two boards (the BIOS was never updated on my Rev. 1.0 board and I never checked what version is on my Rev. 3.0 board), but I will say, just going by what I've tried on the GA-6VXE7+ Rev. 3.0, this combination makes for a damn fine hybrid PC with a wider range of performance levels than the K6-III+. I'm going to do some more tests later this month, so look forward to that.

On another note, is there a Socket 370 or Slot 1 board that is compatible with the Nehemiah C3 that has three ISA slots, an AGP slot and an SBLink connector?
