If you want to game on a Super 7 system, then an AMD CPU is the way to go. They are the strongest performers on that platform.

That means at 233 (real mhz) it performs like a 150mhz pentium and that is exactly my finding also. I have the same cpu and it looses to the 166mmx. It is on the (very) low side for some nice 3dfx gaming.

You're much better off with the 200mmx, just overclock it to 250mhz and it will really work well on a lot of games with the voodoo2.

If your platform can do 100mhz fsb go for a k6-3. You can get one cheap off ebay - just search for "k6 unsoldered colection" - it's like 10-15$ and has free shipping.

Are you sure you didn't mean "K6-3+" instead of "K6-3"?
And I saw that German seller is still selling his 400ATZs, wow, how many of these laptop CPUs were made?

400ATZ was not meant for laptops. AMD doesn't call it "Mobile", but "Embedded".
Embedded usually implies that they have to supply the parts for several years, longer than consumer CPUs. I suppose after that time there were still CPUs left so these are sold now.

And what you say would help make sense of why there are so many of them out there. It's not relevant if they were officially called "laptop"-CPUs or "embedded"-CPUs as both are K6-3+'s

Btw, I found the seller kanecvr was referring to (no idea why I couldn't find him before, this time I searched for "k6-3+ 400ATZ"). I got tons of those chips, gonna continue inventorying my CPUs tomorrow so I'll know exactly how many I have.

Cash registers (POS). If you look at the seller you found (should be http://www.ebay.de/itm/AMD-K6-III-K6-3-400-AT … 7-/201068983342) you'll see that he is selling lots of POS stuff. Also he has the following in his small print referring to POS equipment:

I agree it doesn't matter for practical purposes. I merely tried to explain why there are so many of these CPUs available.
If anything the embedded models are more desirable because they are available for lower voltages. The mobile ones are 2.0V, while there are embedded variants (third letter 'Z') with 400MHz@1.6V, 450MHz@1.7V and 500MHz@1.8V. I also see these values as a recommendation when overclocking the 400MHz ATZ.

Well, this all started with me wondering if the K6-IIIs (the non-+'s) were actually so easy to find these days, but alas, it was a + vs non+ mixup 🙁

I Have placed the Cyrix on the side for now, too many issues with that motherboard. It wont recongnise any PS/2 mouse device only USB and for some reason only a Razor Tron Mouse??

I have 3 systems now I picked up in really good nick, like new actually. A Pentium 3 Acer Apire 6400 800mhz (I put in S3 Savage 4 card works fine!!), a Packard Bell Multimedia Executive Pc 150mhz (Upgraded to 200mmhz mmx + 12mb Voodoo 2) and a Packard Bell iconnect AMD Duron 800 (Upgraded to s3 Savage 4 AGP)
