This guy rents arcades, pinballs, jukeboxes and other misc. to TV/film production in the Vancouver, Canada area. No computers so far as I know.

VERY true, at least here in the UK Apple were a who? what? when?. In the 80's it was Sinclair with the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad with the CPC & PCW, Commordore with the VIC & 64 & Acorn with Electron and BBC. After that in late 80's AMIGA & ATARI ST ruled the home computer market and Amstrad did great with the later PCW's in home/small office and even newspaper offices. APPLE and PC were very late here in the UK.

The computers on the bridge of Red Dwarf are commodore 64's. The computers in the bunker in Terminator Rise of the Machines are a bunch of PET's.

Commodore 64+1541 in Pixels on the nerds desk... except that movie is awful.

I've noticed they're missing the Wang 2200VP from the movie "Coma" (1978) that shows up at the Jefferson Institute, in case anybody wants to let them know.

People running these prop companies are renting them out as "working". So I take it they must atleast be lurking around here on VOGONS, VCF or equivalent. There isn't many other places you'll find the information you need to keep them operational.

These guys provided props for the FX series "The Americans" and "Halt, and Catch Fire".

It is not unusual that vintage electronics collectors lend out equipment for use as props. Its very common in the vintage TV community. Many times the producers don't even require something that works since they can add the video in post production.

I'd say this is a good guess actually.

To keep old PC's in operation you don't need much, sometimes nothing at all.
- Remove dust. Or just hardly use them.
- Replace bad capacitors and leaking batteries. Or trow out and replace the entire thing.
- Don't go on the internet and don't install additional software.

To upgrade them or try all kinds of software, that is another thing. There are mostly laptops on that renting site, so not much upgrading in that case.

I remember an Australian cop show "Blue Heelers" and I'm 99% sure the PC's just had edit opened to look like something was on the screen.
There was also 1 episode where they got a virus and loaded a screen shot of an Imp from Doom (because a virus always displays something in TV world when you get infected)

This was in the late 90's
