I wanted to ask about a game whose title has slipped my mind but didn't find an older thread to resurrect. So, unless someone has a recommendation of where to put this sort of discussion, I propose that this be the memory jogging thread for retro games.

Anyway, the game I remember is a top down open world helicopter schmup in a desert setting. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Desert Strike as it had more of an arcade feel. It was also kind of like Return Fire (on helicopter mode), but definitely a DOS title.

Any ideas?

I have been looking for this game for more than a decade now with no luck. It was a game I bought in UK in 1994, on floppy disks. It was a turn based fantasy RPG top down view, square based (as in not hexagon/diamonds). You control multiple characters of different classes and you move on this map, indoors and outdoors. I remember than some of the bad guys were "dopplegangers". The word "Rogue" as well as the a nice rendered still image of a dagger was at some point in the loading screens. It felt sandboxy in the style but I think it might have had an arching mission/story.

All my searches on Mobygames or otherwise turned out empty.

Sounds like a large amount of the SSI Goldbox games. They all have distinctive(ly borrowed) cover art so you could probably identify by that

No, I do not think it is a Gold Box game. The game was not isometric, but fully upside down and I remember very little writing, it was mostly just the map view where you move your characters. You had wizards, warriors, etc.
